Heroes of the Storm tips and tricks you must know

The strategic diversity in Heroes of the Storm is something that makes the game so fun to play. There are so many things interacting with each other that every game just feels like endless exploration of new opportunities and strategies. If you are curious on learning some fun tricks, look no further.

Drain all the ammo!

Cannon towers are what protects the enemies gates from your invasion. The Forts and Keeps behind them also try to stop you, by not only dealing damage, but also slowing your movement and attack speed with their attacks. All of them have limited ammunition, with Cannon towers holding a maximum of 20 rounds, and regenerating 1 round every 10 seconds. It would be a shame if someone… exhausted it. There are a few sneaky ways of exhausting this ammunition.

When using Nova’s Holo Decoy, you can drain them in about a minute. This trick compensates for her low siege damage, since it negates the enemies defenses.

This trick is also applicable when using Abathur and his Toxic Nest. Upon placement, the nest is visible and the towers focus it, wasting their ammo.

When speaking about ammo drain, we can’t ignore the Lord of Sin Azmodan who is an absolute siege machine. Using his Demon Warriors to drain the ammo is a great setup for the minion wave that is led by his General of Hell.

That's my regeneration globe

Taking the regeneration globes on lanes is always important. Whether it is to replenish some health and mana, or stack a talent with them (in many cases both) you should not neglect them. But what do you do when the enemy zones you out?

Here comes the sneaky Nova. Nova’s Holo Decoy picks up regeneration globes and after the job is done leaves until it is called again. This way you can take risk free regen globes and the enemy can’t have much to say about it.

Cannon balls? I got that

When playing on Blackheart’s Bay you need to 1) Acquire coins, 2) Pay those coins to Blackheart. When you do, he unleashes his wrath on your structures. Blackheart works in a pattern and starts from the middle lane Fort, continuing to the top one and finishing with the bottom one. After this, he starts the same procedure for the Keeps.

What you need to do is wait for the structure to be marked for strike and Void prison it. The Cannon Balls will fall, but they will deal no damage.

Some players have a problem and are frustrated they can’t stop the cannon balls from devastating their structures. Well, they can.

Pick Zeratul and use the greatest heroic in the game – Void Prison, to deny some of the cannon balls. What you need to do is wait for the structure to be marked for strike and Void prison it. The Cannon Balls will fall, but they will deal no damage.

The Golem has nothing on my structures

Everyone is crazy about Sylvanas on Haunted Mines. The weird thing about Sylvanas though, is that she tends to die often. Instead of jumping on her bandwagon, try a different approach.

Tassadar is a true force to be reckoned with on Mines. Golems hate him and they have a good reason. When playing Tassadar all you need to do for amazing defense is pick up  Reinforce Structure at level 4 and MULE at level 7. First the Golem will need to deal a lot more damage to take down this constantly shielded structure and second, if you are swift enough you can heal the Fort with MULE, as it is being hit by the Golem. This works until the next Golem root cast that will kill the MULE. After the Golem has fallen and done little damage, you will heal that damage with MULE and your structures are good to go.

I can see you, Terran

Vision is scarce in Heroes and this is why it is of paramount importance. This is especially true on Blackheart’s Bay and Tomb of the Spider Queen. A great character to get this vision with is the Broodmother herself.

Zagara can lay creep on a low cooldown and this creep gives massive vision of an area. Laying it at the pay points of maps grants you control and more importantly – discourages the enemy from sneaky paying. Use the creep wisely and always be on top of paying to secure the victory.

Don't you dare touch my Boss

It is always frustrating to see the enemy team sneaking a Boss. But it is also always amazing to find them there, wipe them, take the Boss and finish the game. The question is - how do you know they are there?

When you press TAB you see your and your enemies’ siege damage. Siege damage goes up from striking minions, structures, mercenaries and Bosses. So the second you see 5 of them are missing, even if you weren’t attentive on the minimap, hit TAB and if the damage is going rapidly on all of them, you know what to do. Using TAB is also valid for finding out if the enemy is taking a mercenary camp and this has its own benefits, as you can pick lone rangers off.

This is especially important as many people in solo queue neglect it and it is in my opinion the easiest way to punish Boss/mercenary calls and turn around games.

I think your Fort is burning

On maps like Sky temple, where the objective spawns at different parts of the map, it is worth to take note of when the temple will spawn and take the mercenary camps on the other side.

An example is the top bruiser camp. After the middle and top temple have been expended in the beginning the bottom temple will spawn in 2 minutes.

The bottom temple spawns roughly between 4:15 and 4:40. Around 3:40 you should start taking the top bruiser camp.

Having this in mind, the bottom temple spawns roughly between 4:15 and 4:40. Around 3:40 you should start taking the top bruiser camp and wait for the announcer if you aren’t sure of the exact spawn time. When you hear it, capture the camp and run down to your allies. By doing this you force a trade-off for the enemy team. The Bruisers will push their top lane, but if they send someone to clear them, they will be outnumbered at bottom temple. In such situations most solo queue teams take all the wrong decisions and your team can just snowball off of them.

My minions are not cursed, they are improved

It sucks to have your team cursed on Cursed Hollow with all your minions falling down like leaves. This can always be changed though.

Abathur is a sucker for improvements and this case is no different. At level 7 you can pick up Networked Carapace. It shields all nearby minions and mercenaries when you use Symbiote. This turns your cursed minions into fresh improved warriors and negates the siege effects of the curse.

Pick Abathur, if you get angry teammates mute them, and proceed to show them the light in the next Cursed Hollow game.
