In 2017, well after the 2010 release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Blizzard introduced War Chests to StarCraft II. These are seasonally available and battle pass-like in function, rewarding players with cosmetic upgrades as they're leveled up. Unlike a traditional battle pass system, however, proceeds from each new War Chest help fund the StarCraft II World Championship Series each year. Last month, Blizzard began to detail its sixth War Chest and announced a new tournament that would be hosted in conjunction with the War Chest's release.
