Starcraft History: NTT

ntt.jpg

His name is Anker Jacob Scharn, Dutch nationality, also known at NTT; an onomatopoeic alias spoken aloud should be “Entity”, or so the rumors say. He's had other very famous names such at Hasudrone
or 하수드론 that he used to use when playing Koreans and was formally known as [GG69]NTT.

[s]replays[/s]He was a Terran player of serious skill and made a name for himself for having a style full of innovation and smart gaming. He was also known for making an insane number of SCVs and had a special emphasis on his macro. He was born June 1st 1982 so that would make him 22 today. His two most important achievements among others were placing 3rd at WCG Challenge 2000 and placing top 16 season 3 of Battle.net ladder, when this ladder still meant something.

Many will argue that his glory days ended very much with the beginning of the replay era because replays "stifled" innovation and creative gaming. Personally I think one and the other were a mere coincidence and replays only leveled the playing field. Replays played a roll accelerating the learning curve of all Starcraft gamers that took advantage of them. Before replays only map hackers were privy of taking a peek into the strategies of their opponents and learning from them, after replays came out, everyone had this opportunity. Innovation continued after NTT during the replay era. In my humble opinion he simply quit playing competitively, much like everyone else.

What did some of his peers think of him back then? Well I found the opinions in old interviews by France Elky and United States Tsunami and they were not very good. He apparently was not the most polite of gamers.

» Starcraft Legacy Interview of France ElkySCL World-wide, which known player would you consider the most BM (bad mannered)? Any particular player you're rivals with?

Elky I really don't like Asmodey, and I think he feels the same way about me. NTT used to be pretty bad manner but most of the time in a funny way and I have nothing against him, Asmodey is just bm in a stupid and arrogant way. As for rivalry, it's really part of the game and progaming scene so of course except my team members and few others I see many of them as my rivals when I have to play them in tournament, even though I respect everybody a lot.
» United States Tsunami’s article: Know Thine OpponentIf you are playing NTT you know for a fact that if you win he will complain that he wasn’t trying because you are not worth trying for. This information can help you decide whether or not you really want to waste your time with these idiots.A few words from a friend who played with him a few times, as United States x7-chobo describes him:

x7-chobo: He has inferiority complex, quiet boy from I think Amsterdam
x7-chobo: explains his behavior on BNet
x7-chobo: He’s all about economy

Still this post is not about who he was, or what people thought of him. It is about the legacy he left. Only thanks to replays we today can, fortunately and paradoxically, appreciate his games and style. This replay pack is from the Hungarian Starcraft site that has a one of the best replay pack sections out there.

I hope some one out there takes the time to merge both the NTT packs we have in our download section and sort them out in a better manner. Most replays can be found in the both packs repeating themselves but you will find an occasional new replay in each pack.

You can find the Hungarian NTT replay pack, made by Hungary Tot in our download section or theirs. Download it from where you want. If you scroll down in our section you will find our old NTT replay pack. If some one has a better picture of him please PM me.
