Five Swedish players decline WCG invitations

LiiLD.C and Throzain do not plan to play.

It seems Sweden's World Cyber Games national qualifier will be a tenuous event as five of the invited players have told GosuGamers they will not partake. The majority of the players feel it is not worth it as the winner must pay for the trip to China as well as the license fee. LiiLD.C, Sweden's as of today best ranked player, is one of the players not coming.

- I think it's really sad that WCG doesn't sponsor a WarCraft player this year. The costs are sky high as it's located in Asia this year, says Daniel "LiiLD.C" Claesson to GosuGamers.
- Me and Raptor has decided to not play the qualifier, which I'm very sad about, adds the Swedish Night Elf player.

Claesson's partner-in-crime, Fredrik "KnOfF" Knopf also in Raptor-Gaming, had plans on playing but when finding out the circumstances he has declined as well.

- I don't feel like putting up that much money to play a qualifier when you are bound to pay even more to play in the grand final; if it was sponsored I would have played, says KnOfF and adds that there are other players that deserve to go there more than him, and name drops DowaQ, Thorzain and Effect.

Thorzain, the third Raptor Gaming player, is critical as well.
- Since whoever wins the Swedish WCG qualifers won't get any expenses paid, I doubt that we will be seeing the top Swedish players, if any players at all, fight for the spot, considering the trip to China would cost about 2250$. I for one will most likely not try to qualify, since my chance of winning the money back would be very small.

EfFeCt and DowaQ, last hope?
The former Swedish top player Sebastian "FuRy" Pesic, who received an invitation, is not taking part either.
- It's pretty shitty that the winner has to pay everything on his own. I was going to partake, but it's not possible anymore, since it's on August 14, says FuRy being bound to other endeavours at that time.

The same goes for Fhra, who has declined the invitation.

With the current situation, Hjalmar "DowaQ" Högberg, Kim "SaSe" Hammar and Aril "EfFeCt" Bramler seems to be the only players set for the tournament. GosuGamers has yet to contact the players, however, so we have no confirmation if the tournament will get any participants at all.

GosuGamers has been in contact with the tournament organizers, and they have addressed they will go through with the tournament even with the player drop-offs.

The qualifier will take place on August 14 in Stockholm, Sweden and is organized by Peliliga and DreamHack.
