Philippines claim their third MLBB gold medal at the SEA Games

It was the final day of the MLBB Men’s event at the SEA Games today, with the main feature being the gold medal match-up between Malaysia and the Philippines.

Today at the 32nd Southeast Asia Games we saw the culmination of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang event, with the men’s tournament grand finals. Prior to that kicking off would be the bronze medal match between host nation, Cambodia, and Myanmar. It was quite the quick affair, with Myanmar taking a convincing 2-0 victory to claim third place overall. However, with both teams obtaining a bronze medal, it was the grand final between PH and MY that was much more important.

Having lost to MY during the group stage, it was unclear whether or not the PH squad could overcome them when it came down to best-of-five grand finals. The first game of the series showed that they had the power, but the resolve of MY began to shine through, as they mounted a spectacular defence. After a little over 25 minutes, PH managed to crack through the defences and secured a victory.

With one game on the board, PH turned up the heat, as they marched into a much more convincing victory to place themselves on match point. The third, and what would be the final game of the series was a severely one-sided affair, as the PH squad ripped through MY one last time. From an amazing Harith pick down to a barely seen Helcurt, PH dominated the Land of Dawn, not leaving any room for MY to move. It only took 11-minutes for the final game to come to an end, and with that, a 3-0 sweep was seen.

For three iterations of the MLBB event at the SEA Games, PH has now taken the gold medal, as they secure the “3peat”, and another massive win in 2023. For Malaysia, after a magnificent event, they head home with the silver medal. In the post-match interview, Coach Pabz of Team MY reflected on his team's loss:

It is my fault. I couldn't predict their draft. The players tried their best and fought hard. It wasn't enough.
