Interview with Legionnaire

Okay lets get started shall we? Please introduce your self, name, age and location.

Peter Neate, 23, Australia

So lets just jump right into the Korean scene as you are in it, what is your view on all of the Korean leagues in Korea? In a recent interview of the POS manager he said there is far to many leagues in Korea and his players play 10+ hours a day.

yeah it deffinately is harder, especially with 2 of the team leagues running with every team pretty much playing both a week. And teams can only use progamers now instead of before, where they could stick out ameteurs to fill in spots due to the changing of the rules, so top pros are flat out playing everything and don't have enough time to really practice some maps to get everything perfected. But for chobos like myself, it's good.

You just gained your progamer status the same time Assem did correct? A few months ago?

mine was actually a few weeks before Assem, but yeah same thing.

wcg2004_legionnaire.jpgSo how often do you practice and who do you mainly practice with?

Hexa team, pos team, and any rejects who need to practice maps vs me. else whoever I can con into games. If you have matches you have to practice like in the Pro league (which has new maps each season) its a lot harder to fine practice outside of the team. Like for NFZ the first time I played on it, I only had 3 other progamers who were practicing on that map, and only 2 wanted games on it so it was very hard to get ppl who actually know how to play it properly.

So you don't rely run on a schedual? Just get in as many games in as you can, yes?

Well our schedual is meant to be every night 5-11 or something. But I haven't been going close to that in ages, if my manager complains well my comps been dead for 2 months TT so its his fault !~

Is there any leagues you are looking forward to? As a participant or observer?

Not really, MBC prelims and ITV are coming up, gametv is in the female league atm so it doesn't concern me (it wouldn't atm even if it was T_T) and I bombed out in OGN prelims. That only leaves the pro league and I have a match in 2 weeks or so on that, so my xmas break is very restful :)

Good luck with that :). So what do you do on your free time?

I stalk lim yo hwan. I mean uhh... I hang out with friends. Do whatever you want. same as everyone else.

Speaking of lim yo hwan I recieved a install cd for my new k-tec mouse with his picture on the front of the disk heh.

Yeah he is used to advertise them, been with them for like 3 years now.

Do you do any photo shoots or promotional work?

Last really big promotional shoot we did was for renaissance shopping mall, there were some metrosexual (no i refuse to say gay!) photos circulating of me and dan of it.

lol :( Dan is Rekrul correct?

I certainly hope so.

So where do you sleep? Do you have a team quarters you all stay in or separate places?

Elky lives with Giyom and someone else. Jinsu lives at his house, everyone else is here I think. 'here' being the team headquarters, the lounge room is a big computer room, one of the big bedrooms got turned into the tv room, and 2 bathrooms in this place. It's the entire 2nd top floor of this building, the floor below us is a church. And we can make alot of noise on Sundays :).

Hexatron is a pc room chain correct?

Yeah the manager of Hexatron was the 2nd biggest boss of Cyberria which was the worlds largest pc bang franchise for a while.

Do you gain any benifits from this then? Like free usage of there pc rooms (besides the one in the team quarters)?

Yeah of course, you can pretty much go into any pc room and talk your way into getting free usage. We did that when we were first here just for a holiday and got away with it at 4 different places I think. fun times ^^

Are you guys ever told to go play at certain pc rooms? For the pc room's promotion?

Yeah we do events a lot, either for our Hexatron pc thingamajig to make them happy so they bring in more investors so our sponsor can give us more money! Else its for other pc chains (we don't wear our uniforms for those) and we go play a number of games, sign autographs, get photos taken, then head off. We get extra cash for these sort of ones.

Here at GosuGamers we talked with Elky a short time ago asking him and Giyom if they would be interested in playing a KOTH (King Of The Hill). Elky revealed that he doesn't play much any more and is starting to practice again and Giyom doesn't play any more at all. Do you know if either of them will get back into progaming?

Doubt giyom will. Not like he did anything other then 2 strats anyways, Elky might but poker is a big restraining factor.

Poker is a StarCraft Players nightmare. So much talent has fallen to it.

Yeah well, poker you can win money, starcraft you can... uhhh... not do anything. So it's not a hard choice.

akb2k[MGW] was banned by Legionnaire. (he was being very annoying)

You can include that into the interview!~

Will do, so what do you think of foreigners coming to Korea and playing for professional teams? Players like Mondragon, Testie ect... Do you think they any will come to Korea any time soon?

ummm dunno, testie is going to have a hard time i think being random, he will get an advantage with being able to pick a favourable race but... uhhh I think it will end up being to hard for him to practice them all well enough.

Mondragon, I dunno, the biggest downfall a lot of foreigners have is they do the same strat an awful lot, if its good, it can do well for a little while but pretty much it will end up losing all the time afterwards. Giyom and Intotherainbow somehow got around this because of players stupidity mostly. And I haven't seen enough of Mondragon's reps to know if he does anything different now, but before he was pretty basically the same. Same with Zealotito and Hellghost and such.

How did you first get into Progaming? How did you get signed up on a prefessional team and get to go to Korea? How did it all go about?

First went for WCG 2001, I was really newbie back then, I was 3rd for AUS and I won 2 games at WCG Kor. 2002 I was AUS #1 and we planned on staying the entire time of our visa (3 months) free trip over, perfect opportunity to stay in another country. A Korean friend (we knew in AUS beforehand) set us up a meeting with iventure who offered us a sponsorship to replace giyom and gundam (i forget)? But they couldn't take us straight away so we had to turn them down because of our visa (us being razor from AUS). The night of the 2nd last day before we were flying home, we heard that they changed their mind and would take us straight away. I feel a little sorry for them, because they were expecting big name players like giyom ect, and thought we were since we were white.

so they got ripped off on that account, but because of them I started scing for progaming. The contract was for 3 months so at the end of that they extended my contract, but declined Razor's. So I stayed for another 3, and for top 8 in the 512 player MBC ameteur tourny (thats where I gained my semi-pro licence) and because of those tv games I met up and spoke well with the POS team. I then jumped ship over to POS and played for them. Then I jumped ship to Hexatron and that sir, is my life story.

What was your greatest moment in your SC career? (if you have one).

It happened today in fact. A proud ferocious Starcraft player by the name of ProudCappi set a challenge, that has withstood the test of time. 1v1 vs a computer on blood bath and you could only use 1 probe to destroy the enemy. The mark had been set at an amazing 34:07 to defeat the foe! And as the ages passed the world began to wither and die. But then the prophecy of a great knight surfaced and sir legalot rode forth to conquer this evil to set the world of starcraftmania on a course of peace! The scv's fought bravely as they always had, but sir legalots brave probe struggled and fought against all odds, managing to destroy the bane of the universe, the dreaded command centre in 14:32.

haha

Sorry I saw Brian (Assem) watching 'earth and sea' a fantasy movie and got carried away. Anyway for those that want to beat the mark try it, and post on the thread in tl.net!

I was thinking of trying to just attack the scvs and then after the 6 of them die go after the CC but my micro isn't good enough for that, maybe Kingdom or Reach could do it, but I can't TT. The 2nd best score so far is like 20 mins. 20:17 to be exact.

So who do you think is the best progamer for there race as of today?

iloveoov, reach and I geuse july... but ppl really could have countered his style by now.

okay final question, what sould we expect to see from Mr.Legionnaire in the future of progaming?

Well I never really mass practiced like I should have, but when I came back from AUS I was really into it again, and wanted to win, lack of real pc has annoyed me (been through 3 T_T) but I reckon I'll make it through the next leagues. Other then that I'll still be doing some interesting games every now and then for everyone to see. Notice I didn't say good... just interesting ^^ hee hee. And of course I might try to defend my title should anyone take it away from me.

Do you have any shout outs?

yeah to everyone, merry xmas to all!~

Good luck with your gaming and thanks for your time good sir.

np anytime
