KotH: SuKeR vs. Testie

Rules and history of King of the hill
Before the new rule changes, the king of the hill seasons were divided into at least three matches each. As soon as a king had proven himself worthy his king spot three times in a row, he was to step down from the hill in order to join the Kings' Hall of Fame. Thereafter two new challengers would be chosen after some time's break and the fighting would continue. This in order to make it more diverse so more people would be given the chance and disable situations where the king was too dominating.

The very first King of the Hill season at GosuGamers was actually as far back as when GosuGamers was all written in Swedish and had the .net domain (including a terrible looking design!, hehe). The first two players fighting were Reveny and StarSlayer, both Swedish. Reveny won the first game and then the rest were forfeited if I remember correctly. Thereafter, the former Swedish national team member DeliCato challenged for the king spot and easily outplayed his opponent, three games to zero.

Thereafter the King who were to rule the hill for a long time challenged DeliCato, namely TreK. He beat DeliCato in a close match, ending three to two (I think) in favour to TreK. Thereafter no more matches were played in a while since GosuGamers became international and opened the new site (2.0), in English, 16th of May 2003. However, after a few months the fighting started again (x of y) and this was what we officially called season two. TreK was facing the korean Sasin)Child in what would end up in five very long and intense Protoss versus Zerg, including lots of cannons, weird "cheeses" (rushes) and high-technology units.

GosuGamers now changed some of the policy of the site; we would mostly concentrate on European Starcraft gaming. A lot of people gave the idea to let this korean or that korean challenge TreK but we re-thought and invited the German zerg-player, Mondragon. TreK won this match as well, but just as close as the previous ones, four games to three.

These two players (Mondragon and TreK) would dominate the European Starcraft gaming scene brutally for the upcoming months, both facing eachother lots of times in miscellaneous events and kept on winning tournament after tournament, league after league (including the King of the Hill). They were the ones most people talked about and were two main attractions at GosuGamers aswell, especially when the GosuGamers Power League started its first season. This time period, however, was dramatically ended when TreK was found guilty of map hacking and kicked from the Swedish national team and GosuGamers events. However, as far as we've been able to detect and what TreK claims himself, no maphack was used during our King of the Hill matches.

When the third season of King of the Hill started, we got to see two players fighting for the hill. One of them was an old challenger, the zerg player Mondragon from Germany. The other challenger was no other than the Australian Legionnaire - coming from Pirates of Space - a semi-pro team in Korea. In the opening game of the third season, Mondragon managed to beat the semi-pro with 4 games to 2. This win gave Mondragon the title 'King of the Hill' - but he didn't know what was about to happen.

The next King of the Hill match starred the king Mondragon and the spanish terran player SuKeR as the challenger. After seven intense games, SuKeR claimed the hill as his, and was now the newly crowned king. After a two-week break, SuKeR stood face to face with 2p.ret, a zerg player from the Netherlands. SuKeR managed to stay on top of the hill once again, with 4 games won to 2.

Not to slip away too much (it was just a few sentences, I had to!) in the often wonderful nostalgic dreams, back to the king of the hill results.

We are currently in the forth round of the third season in the sG King of the Hill. The results from the third season are as follows:

Nal_Testie is one the most discussed players in the Brood War scene. He was once labelled as a hacker, but came back without using it, and is now a very hot player. He has participated in WCG Canada three times, and has yet not qualified to the international WCG in Korea. Testie is the captain of Team Canada - in which he has proven himself really worthy. He is also a member of » RSGaming, a clan with mostly canadians and americans. Will the Canadian Cannon unleash his hot fury, or will he stand no chance against the "spicy terran" SuKeR?

A short chat with Nal_Testie
poGDI: What do you think about the maps in KOTH?

Nal_Testie: Well, umm. I really haven't played some of the maps at all. (Detonation, Luna, and I don't think I've played the rest of the maps many games. But from what I hear they are fairly good choice. Although I'm unsure about Enter The Dragon. But of course seeing as I haven't played some of them that much.. my opinion on them is worth about nothing. Though they seem pretty balanced.

Good thing I'm a random player? ;)

poGDI: Why are you going to win this game?

Nal_Testie: Does that question make sense? :P Well, I'm going to win this game because Suker is much too pretty and needs some mental harm done to him seeing as he is physically beautiful.

poGDI: Do you warm up before games, if yes how do you do it? Some special ritual?

Nal_Testie: Nah not really. If I wake up and wanting to play ... well... I just do the usual sacrifice a virgin and then get on my way. But doesn't everyone do that? (I almost sacrificed myself once because I couldn't find a virgin).

Lucky me
one happened on by

Coverage by Raistlinkoth-sukertestie1.jpgWe kicked off the game at 17.00 CET in the channel OP GoS-Raistlin; where a newly awaken Nal_Testie was sitting and rolling his thumbs. SuKeR was already on the battlefield, and we waited a couple of minutes before he arrived. All right, first game was Detonation Xnote. Detonation Xnote is an interesting map; outside your main base there is an expansion with six mineral patches, which is blocked by small mineral patches further up contra down. So, you need to mine there first before you can get out that way. But lucky for the players - there is another way.
There are four expansions with gas spread out diagonally on the map, with cliffs behind, and then some other mineral only expansions in the corners. This game Testie was Protoss and SuKeR was Terran. The positions were '3 and '7. I didn't really know what happened in that game, due to a disconnect that my computer suddenly wanted me to have. But Testie won the first game.

koth-sukertestie2.jpgThe second game was Lost Temple, where Testie spawned as Zerg, and Suker was Terran again. Suker started to train his infantry army, consisting of marines, firebats and medics; while Testie expanded and went fast spire. Somehow, with help from dropships, Suker managed to infiltrate Testie's base and destroy his spire, which slowed the Canadian Cannon down a bit. With cracklings, lurkers and ultralisks, Testie was controlling the middle for a while, but SuKeR's army of M&M, Science Vessels and Siege Tanks tried to push him down. It really seemed like it was Suker's game for a long while, with impressive Science Vessel abilities, but in the end, nothing could stand before the swarm. 2-0 to Testie.

koth-sukertestie3.jpgThe third game was played on Enter the Dragon 2004, Testie was warped in as protoss at '5, and Suker was once again terran, who landed at '11. In the beginning it could've been it; Testie tried to drop Suker's mineral line with one reaver and two zealots. Fortunately for Suker, he managed to destroy the shuttle before the reaver could land. Suker then put up a bunker, some turrets and had a bunch of units outside Testie's base, but the Canadian Cannon didn't seem to care. Constant drops from Testie slowly destroyed Suker's base. Thanks to an island exp, Testie defeated the spicy terran Suker once again. 3-0, how is this going to end?

koth-sukertestie4.gifThe fourth game - Nostalgia, and SuKeR picking Zerg, is he going to turn this game over to his advantage? Testie was Protoss at '7, and Suker you could find spawning at '1. In the beginning, Testie harassed a bit with a reaver and two zealots, but it didn't do that much damage. After a mistake made by Testie, causing his dropship full of reavers to die, the game was practically Suker's. 3-1 to Testie. In the animated image you can see Testie's first drop at SuKeR's main base. It was a very nice move, I suggest you check it out in the replay.

The fifth game I have no replay of, sadly. But according to the players, it wasn't much of a game. It was played once again on Nostalgia, Testie wanted revenge. Unfortunately, it didn't work out just as Testie had planned. Testie was protoss and went fast expansion, as Suker did a 9 pool as Zerg. You do the math. 3-2 to Testie.

koth-sukertestie5.jpgNow SuKeR has done a quite interesting comeback, winning two games in a row. Will he continue the streak, or will his hopes of winning King of the Hill three times in a row be flushed down by Testie? In the sixth game, Testie starts once again as Protoss, and SuKeR again as Terran. The map is Lost Temple, where Testie is '9 and SuKeR is '12. Testie, who has yet one game to win, decides to do a Dark Templar rush, as SuKeR goes marines, medics and firebats. SuKeR does a little trick, by hiding his barracks, as you can see in the picture. As Testie is moving up towards Suker's base, the "spicy terran" has managed to put up some vultures, and manages to hold on a bit more. But in the long run, Testie's templars of the night gives him the win. 4-2 to Testie, and we have a new king of the hill, ladies and gentlemen!

A new king: Testie

After-game talk with Testie, our new King of the HillRaistlin: So, first spontaneous thoughts on the game?

Testie: Um... They hmm I think they were kinda miss. Not to be bad mannered, but some of them were just gay! ;) I think there were two, maybe three decent games though.Raistlin: You started off with 3-0, then something happened; tell us.

Testie: Well, the PvZ two major things happened. A: I fired my reaver at an egg for some reason. (Miss) And B: I put my 2 reavers infront of my army, and got screwed position wise. That game was fine though. I deserved that loss for my miss.

Then well, the 5th game, the one there is no replay for.. I fast expand. He 9 pools. The math is quite simple. "oh, lings vs a nearly built nexus and a nearly completed forge.. how neat!" and from there i was dead. And then since he 9 pooled my fast expo.. I thought he deserved to have his gas taken in the last one.
Raistlin: Okay, how do you feel now that you're the newly crowned king?

Testie: Like a million bucks. Except poor.Raistlin: If you got to choose, which race would you like to play in the next KotH?

Testie: Well, that depends on the maps. And the opponent. ;) And I have not played these maps enough to decide. :)Raistlin: Okay, thanks for this little after-game chat; anything you would like to add?

Testie: Mondi rules! And, after the second game I apologise to ToT)Upham( after I got 9 pooled I said he could not observe, and that Raistlin would observe instead. And by the way, those pic of the weeks are really cute! And... this crown fits nicely.
