EPS Germany: HasuObs takes the gold medal

The German ESL pro Series is the oldest Pro Series and very well established in Germany. It's the most important German solo league and is widely seen as the German WarCraft 3 championship. This weekend the eleventh finals took place in Cologne.

The German WarCraft 3 champion: HasuObs

The qualified players have been four well known ones, not only in Germany. All of them have had some international appeariances and should be known to most of the community. As the first ranked player of the regular season we have got Protois. The Undead player is under contract at mTw and has dominated the EPS a lot this season. Only one loss could be found.

Round One

Germany miou0-2 Germany HasuObs
The second ranked player was the reigning champion HasuObs from mousesports. He lost three matches during the season.
The third ranked player has been one most of you will know. SK Gaming's miou. The Human player dominated the German WarCraft 3 scene for years, winning overall six EPS seasons in a row.
Last but not least another mTw player qualified for the finals: hanf. The Night Elf participated some finals before but struggled a bit before this season.

The first two matches have been hanf against Protois and miou against HasuObs. It was said that especially the hanf vs. Protois match would be deciding whether Protois will end on the top or as fourth, since he seemed to have problems playing offline. hanf was able to defeat his teammate 2-1 and therefore many thought that Protois would be far too nervous in the lowerbracket to manage to win.

#2 Germany Protois3.000 €
#3 Germany hanf2.000 €
#4 Germany miou1.000 €
In the second match, HasuObs clearly defeated miou with 2-0, not a too big suprise at all. The winnerbracket final therefore was hanf against HasuObs and the Undead player clearly showed why he won the previous season by defeating hanf with 2-0.
Int he lowerbracket final Protois had to defeat miou of the top favourite of this season's finals would be kicked out. Although many said Protois would not be able to be victorious after losing the first match, he was able to send home miou who obviously is not as dominating as he was one year before. The fourth ranked player was found, the third ranked player had to be determined in the match between Protois and hanf. The same opponents, the same team, but a different winner. Protois this time defeated his teammate with a clear 2-0 and the overall final was a mirror match between HasuObs and Protois.

Due to coming from the lower bracket, Protois would have to win two BO3 matches against the reigning champion, but HasuObs defeated his throne by winning 2-1 in the first BO3. The new and old champion is HasuObs, will he be able to start such an impressive winning streak as miou had? It for sure would be possible, although it looks a lot harder than it was at miou's times. We will see!
