Team owners in the Overwatch League (OWL) and Call of Duty League (CDL) esports competitions are in talks with Activision Blizzard over reducing the amount of money they pay to the video game giant, according to The Esports Observer.
The discussions with Activision Blizzard, which publishes the Overwatch and Call of Duty (COD) titles, are reportedly part of a solution being sought by participating franchises to improve their business model.
Tony Petitti, the former Major League Baseball (MLB) executive who was named Activision Blizzard’s president of sports and entertainment in August, has purportedly held ‘frequent discussions’ with team owners about how to make their businesses work long term.
