Famous musician Steve Aoki partners with Rogue

The famous DJ Steve Aoki took ownership of the esports organisation Rogue, in another sign of the increasing mainstream popularity of esports.

First, a short introduction if you are unfamiliar with the musician Steve Aoki. The American producer is fairly well-known for his dance/electro house, and has collaborated with stars such as will.i.am, Afrojack and LMFAO among others. If you have a good memory, you might recall seeing him streaming on Twitch from his own studio. Aside from that, he was present at PAX East earlier this year, and apparently decided he wanted to increase his involvement with esports on the back of that experience.

His search for a fitting team to invest in led him to Rogue, a young American organisation founded in the wealth of Las Vegas and run by esports veterans. Rogue mainly gained fame by competing in the professional Overwatch scene. The French-Swedish team have won three LAN tournaments already this year, including TakeOver and the premier Overwatch tournament of ESL at Gamescon, the Atlantic Showdown.

Rogue CEO Franklin Villarreal on Aoki’s partnership: “Our organization was expanding to the point where we wanted to bring on another partner. We couldn't be happier that we met Steve when we did. His genuine passion for the eSports scene was exactly what we were looking for.”

More and more we see names from the world of mainstream entertainment participating in or investing in esports. The fact that those organisations are partnering with well know esports teams is promising, and organisations willing to provide support to young esports brands is vital to the whole scene growing.
