Who else is excited to learn more about the Overwatch Universe? We certainly are!
When Overwatch was first announced at BlizzCon 2014, a lot of things were unique to this new project. Overwatch was going to be the first FPS ever made by Blizzard, and it would also feature the newest franchise since StarCraft in 1998. To accompany the new universe, Blizzard announced they would be working hard to provide lore-based content outside of the game experience.
We've had teasers here and there but it seems Blizzard is about ready to share the first of the publications they have in store:
Animated Shorts
Animated Shorts will soon be released focusing on telling the stories behind the heroes we (well some of us) have played. We certainly got chills with the Announcement Cinematic, and hope for many more in the near future (starting in March already). These shorts will be released for free, so everyone will be able to enjoy them if they please.
Digital Comic Shorts
The image at the top of this article is what will be the cover of the first digital comic short that will be released (in April). While the first one will evidently focus on McCree, there are also plans in the work for at least five more comic shorts. One of which will focus on the escapades of our favourite crime duo Junkrat and Roadhog; there must be a lot to learn about these two crazy guys. Furthermore Reinhardt will be given the honor of his own digital short, most likely focused on some of his younger years. As always, the Graphic style of Blizzard is a thing of beauty but this time around a variety of writers and artists will also be contributing.
Graphic Novel
For true fans of Overwatch lore, Blizzard has plans of releasing physical graphic novels. When bought, these graphic novels will bring the most concentrated lore doses to life. Though no clear release date is set (sometime this year), it is known that the first graphic novel will be called First Strike and will focus heavily on the Omnic Crisis. Soldier: 76, Torbjörn, Reaper and Reinhardt will feature, in a time when they founded Overwatch to protect humanity from the robot uprising.
