The bad news is that D.Va plays like Tracer's less intimidating little sister. The good news is she has a mech suit to make up for that. While D.Va begins as a 150Hp weakling with a flashlight, I mean, Light Gun, she can summon a mech suit to transform into a robot jock with 500 hp and a heap of bullets to dispense. So D.Va is kind of like Bastion, piloted by Tracer, who explodes like Junkrat. It's confusing, watch the video instead.
Abilities:
Mech: Fussion Cannons: Player movement is slowed while wielding dual infinite-clip chain guns.
Mech: Boosters: Ignite boosters to gain forward and upward mobility boosts.
Mech: Defense Matrix: Project a barrier in front of D.Va which blocks incoming damage.
Mech: Self-Destruct: Leave the Mech behind as a living bomb which does massive AOE damage.
Pilot: Light Gun: Twently clip light pistol which does medium damage with medium range.
Pilot: Call Mech: Call your Mech suit to transform into Mech mode.
Role: Tank
Yes, the role system designates D.Va as tank, but feel free to run her instead of a Bastion on some maps. A few maps, namely Numbani, have a bit of a meandering path to the first point. A more mobile version of Bastion, with team support abilities, is ideal to hold those halfway chokepoints. While still possibly strong on defense, D.Va's kit may be too slow and vulnerable to operate as a solo tank.
Composition
While the prospect of a slow moving sentry gun seems to bode well for a defensive composition, it is D.Va's offensive capabilities which are intriguing. As a second tank in an aggressive setup, she could leap in along with a Winston and set up shop in any given area. The Self-Destruct Ultimate has the highest damage in the game, and can clear a stronghold easily. As a secondary, or bruiser tank, on offensive payload and capture, D.Va will do very well.
