Blizzard has released their first battle report for the upcoming StarCraft II featuring a battle between a Terran and a Protoss player. This is the first gameplay footage we have seen since Dreamhack and the game is really starting to look solid.

In order to give you a closer look at the fast-paced, intense, and exciting-to-watch multiplayer matches of StarCraft II, we’re creating a series of videos for the official website. In the first of our StarCraft II Battle Reports, you'll see two of Blizzard Entertainment's best players go head-to-head as the protoss and terrans while our commentators, StarCraft II lead designer Dustin Browder and eSports team member Robert Simpson, dissect and analyze the on-screen action for you.

What really jumps out though is the extensive work that Blizzard has done to make sure that the presentation is top notch. As StarCraft has evolved into its TV presentation in South Korea and online many people have made some advancements to the StarCraft UI with layovers showing food count, minerals and gas of the players. This is all built into the observer mode of StarCraft II now and gives more control to commentators to be able to better analyze the match as it goes on.

From a gameplay perspective this helps show off a good amount of the early to mid game units from both sides in this video. The upgrade for the Protoss Zealots really helps push them from a early viable unit to being viable in mid still. We also see the power of the upgraded Gateways for the Protoss in being able to create a proxy gateway and get units out onto the field quickly and efficiently. It almost seems like it may be slightly overpowered, but in this game you will see it doesn't become a deciding factor in the game.

We also see on this map the high yield mineral patches, unfortunately we don't get to see if they really will be a factor in games yet, from this match alone. We also got a chance to see the watch tower that can be controlled to allow for greater view of the battlefield. On nice feature that was included in WarCraft III that I am glad to see carried over is that there is the fog of war covering the entire field, but is the uncovered part so you can see the entire map and how it looks from the beginning which is great for commentators and the community at large as we watch these great games.

The game itself is fairly fun to watch, as I'm sure it is not professional players and is in-house Blizzard employees playing. The commentating by Dustin Browder and Robert Simpson is top notch as it was at BlizzCon and it is good to see the Lead Designer of the game so involved and knowledgeable about the game.

The only things we wish for are for these battle reports to come often and with a strong variety of matchups. Hopefully we get to see a Zerg matchup on the next battle report.

So go and watch it either through your browser or download the nearly 600MB video file to watch in high resolution. We here at GosuGamers hope there are a lot more of these to come!

Thanks to United Kingdom warlord and Sweden Trizzek for posting this in our forums.
