Zenless Zone Zero 3.0 unveils Roscaelifer, Pyrois, and Wind attribute in major Season 3 expansion

Season 3 is on the horizon, and Zenless Zone Zero is about to open the gates to something entirely new.

We’re drawing closer towards the end of the second season of Zenless Zone Zero, and the game’s anniversary! As the game is about to introduce Version 2.8, a new dev update for Zenless Zone Zero has surfaced online. In this video, HoYoverse outlined major shifts coming into its next story arc, including a new Void Hunter form, a floating city setting for Season 3, and a combat system shake-up anchored by a new Wind attribute.

Shared via official social channels including YouTube on Tuesday (21 April), the programme focused on what will follow Version 2.7, and lays out the transition into Version 2.8 and Season 3.

What happens to Zenless Zone Zero’s story after Season 2?

The story picks up right after the fallout from the Creator’s defeat, with the Proxies now dealing with a growing problem they can’t ignore. The power inside them, first awakened through their connection to The Creator, is no longer stable, described in the update as “slowly inching towards the edge” of their control.

That instability quickly turns into a new objective. Flint Porcelloy is introduced as a material that could help stabilise this condition, but the plan falls apart at the end of Version 2.7 when it is taken by Ramiel.

Something has been awakening in Phaeton for a while now.

Ramiel’s arrival also shifted the direction of the story. She’s not positioned as a simple antagonist, but someone with unclear motives and knowledge that hasn’t been fully revealed. Her encounter on Sixth Street raises immediate questions: whether she planned it, how much she understands about the Proxies’ condition, and what she’s actually after.

What are Ramiel's intentions?

As Season 2 wraps up, pressure also builds from multiple sides. Different factions linked to the Hollow Champion competition begin stepping into focus, including Public Security and the Marcel Group. Their involvement adds more moving parts to an already unstable situation, setting the stage for the shift into Season 3.

Who is Pyrois in Zenless Zone Zero?

Pyrois is the first clear sign that the Proxies’ hidden power is no longer staying buried in the background of the story. Tied directly to the Helios Academy legacy, Pyrois is described as the moment where: “The power that's been hidden inside Phaethon… will officially make their appearance… in the form of the Etheric Other, Pyrois.”

Please HoYo, let Pyrois be a male Void Hunter or something.

Rather than introducing a new recruit or external agent, this is the Proxies’ own internal power finally taking shape in a visible, usable form. What exactly Pyrois is in terms of in-game classification is still not fully defined. The update does not clearly label the character as an Agent or a standard combat unit type, and we only have a silhouette to go on. Instead, it is introduced as an Etheric Other that can participate in combat alongside the Proxies, functioning in a similar support role during battles.

What is Roscaelifer in Zenless Zone Zero?

ZZZ"s new vehicle concept art in Roscaelifer.

Season 3 introduces Roscaelifer, a classified sky city described as a “restricted airspace zone” ruled by Lady Sunbringer.

Originally established as a sanctuary during the old Eridu period, Roscaelifer is designed around a “warm nostalgia” aesthetic, less about spectacle, and more about atmosphere and lived-in spaces.

Some of Roscaelifer's areas feel a bit inspired by New York.

The city takes inspiration from different aesthetical styles and eras:

  • Hover cabs and double-decker buses with retro-futuristic design
  • Bangboo charging stations embedded into public spaces
  • Bakeshops and cosy spaces similar to that of Paris
  • Social areas like Roarin’ Brekkies and tea-focused hangouts inspired by Cuppa Moment
Bangboo-centric spaces abound in the new ZZZ area.

Exploration is structured around districts, hidden areas, and environmental storytelling that connects Roscaelifer back to New Eridu through subtle narrative links.

What is Zenless Zone Zero’s new “Wind” attribute?

The long-rumoured Wind attribute is officially making its debut in Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.8, introducing a new layer of combat strategy ahead of Season 3.

According to the developer program, Version 2.8 will be the first time players can directly experience Wind-based mechanics in battle. A new boss will enter a Wind Attribute Anomaly state during specific phases, and interacting with this state using other Attribute Anomalies will trigger a brand-new effect known as Vortex. While full details are still under wraps, this suggests a stronger emphasis on elemental reactions and timing-based synergy in combat.

A new boss with the wind element will first appear in ZZZ 2.8.

Interestingly, while Wind is being introduced in 2.8, its full potential appears to be reserved for Season 3. The developers confirmed that Wind attribute Agents will “showcase their combat capabilities” in Season 3, indicating that playable characters tied to the element will likely arrive alongside, or shortly after, Version 3.0.

This staggered rollout mirrors previous combat expansions in the game: first introducing the mechanic through enemies and bosses, then expanding it through playable Agents and team-building options. As a result, Version 2.8 may serve as a testing ground for players to familiarise themselves with Wind interactions before it becomes a core part of the meta.

With new attribute synergies, evolving combat systems, and broader team composition possibilities on the horizon, the Wind attribute is shaping up to be one of the most significant gameplay additions heading into Season 3.

Zenless Zone Zero Eous upgrades and Interboo Terminal Explained

Zenless Zone Zero's Eous is getting a bit of love next season!

Exploration systems are also being expanded significantly through upgrades to Eous and the introduction of the Interboo Terminal.

Eous gains new functionality, including:

  • Environmental interaction and manipulation
  • Access to hidden or restricted routes
  • Enhanced traversal support in exploration zones

The Interboo Terminal acts as a city-wide Bangboo network, allowing players to:

  • Track exploration progress across Roscaelifer
  • Unlock Bangboo profiles and story data
  • Discover hidden areas and events
  • Earn rewards through system progression

A new Bangboo restoration gameplay mode is also introduced, where players upgrade and recover Bangboo units, eventually unlocking additional narrative content and a secret base.

Exploration zones will also feature “Singularity Leakage” events, creating Hollow-like distortions with shifting layouts, puzzle structures, and enemy encounters including Ethereals.

Zenless Zone Zero Season 3 rollout and Version 3.0 structure

Season 3 is structured in phases. Version 3.0 focuses on exploration and world-building in Roscaelifer, while Version 3.1 delivers the first major narrative escalation.

Version 2.8 acts as the transition point, continuing the Ramiel storyline, while expanding on Helios Academy and introducing early systems tied to the Proxies’ evolving abilities. A new Polychrome Guide system is also confirmed for Version 2.8, designed to improve progression tracking and resource visibility.

Further details are expected in the Version 2.8 Special Program on 24 April, as HoYoverse continues building toward Season 3’s full rollout.
