Blade will be the second Stellaron Hunter to get a new form after Silver Wolf.
Honkai: Star Rail has revealed an upcoming new 5-star character in Mortenax Blade, an alternate form for the Stellaron Hunter Blade. Mortenax Blade is expected to be released in Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.3, which could be released sometime in June.
Blade's new Mortenax Blade form was first teased by Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse back in January ahead of the release of Version 4.0, which introduced Planarcadia as the latest world to be visited by the Astral Express in its cosmic journey.
Mortenax Blade will wield the Fire element and follow the Path of Nihility, compared to his base form which wields the Wind element and follows the Path of Destruction. Blade is now the second Stellaron Hunter to receive an alternate form after Silver Wolf, who will be getting her new form called Silver Wolf LV.999 in Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.2 later this month.
With the reveal of Mortenax Blade, Blade has also become the seventh character to receive an alternate form after Dan Heng (Imbibitor Lunae, Permansor Terrae), Tingyun (Fugue), Herta (The Herta), Sparkle (Sparxie), March 7th (Evernight), and Silver Wolf (Silver Wolf LV.999). Of course, this list does not include the Trailblazer, who can freely switch between four versions following different Paths.

Why is Blade getting his new form as Mortenax Blade?
While we won't know the full reason why Blade is getting a new form until the release of Mortenax Blade in Version 4.3, we can assume it comes as either a result or as part of the Stellaron Hunters' plans in Planarcadia. The Stellaron Hunters are among the many factions competing in the ‘Phantasmoon Games’, a competition in Planarcadia to compete for the attention of the world's inhabitants and the Aeon of Elation Aha. Blade and Silver Wolf are the two Stellaron Hunters sent to Planarcadia to compete in the event.
With the winner of the Phantasmoon Games being rewarded by becoming an ‘Aeon for a minute’, the competing factions have understandably pulled out all the stops in order to acquire the power of a cosmic god, even for just a minute. The Stellaron Hunters have already allowed Silver Wolf to apparently unleash her full might as Silver Wolf LV.999 given the importance of their mission. We can assume Mortenax Blade to be a similar situation, with Blade perhaps fully embracing the powers granted to him by the Path of Abundance that turned him into an immortal swordsman.
When is Mortenax Blade coming out?
Mortenax Blade is expected to be released as part of Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.3, which should come out sometime in June. The game is currently in Version 4.1, which was released back in 25 March and has a reduced duration of four weeks. As a result, Version 4.2 is expected to be released on 22 April. While there has been no official confirmation on whether Version 4.2 will also have a reduced duration or not, Version 4.3 should still be released by late June.
HoYoverse is also expected to reveal more characters set to be released in Version 4.3 in the coming days.
