Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1 adds two new regions and Agents, swimsuit skins, and more

The Spook Shack stirs up a spooky splash in Zenless Zone Zero’s hot summer update, Version 2.1.

It’s officially Zenless Zone Zero’s first anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than with a livestream packed with surprises? HoYoverse, the developer behind the popular action-RPG, has unveiled the game’s next update: Version 2.1, titled “The Impending Crash of Waves.”

This summer-themed update will shine a spotlight on the newest faction, the Spook Shack, and introduce two new regions: Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort.

Before we dive into all of the juicy details, don't forget to redeem the Version 2.0 livestream’s code for Polychromes and in-game resources:

SPOOKSHACK: 300 Polychrome, 30,000 Dennies, two Senior Investigator Logs, and three W-Engine Energy Modules.

New Faction to be introduced in 2.1: The Spook Shack faction

The Spook Shack is a group driven by a shared fascination with the supernatural, investigating urban legends, ghosts, and strange occurrences. Its members include founder Yuzuha, long-time supporter Manato, and newcomer Alice, who joins during Version 2.1. Their paranormal interests set the stage for a ghost ship investigation that blends horror with summer adventure, framing much of the update’s new content.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1 new Agents: Ukinama Yuzuha and Alice Thymefield

Ukinami Yuzuha from Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1.

Two members of the Spook Shack join the playable roster in Version 2.1. Ukinami Yuzuha is an S-Rank Physical Support Agent who fights alongside her tanuki partner, Kama. She throws candy bombs that assist allies by increasing Anomaly Buildup. Her core skill, Sweet Scare, adapts to the current Agent’s attribute through Flavor Match, enhancing buildup efficiency and triggering Aftershock effects.

Alice Thymefield from Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1.

Alice Thymefield is an S-Rank Physical Anomaly Agent who uses refined sword techniques to build up Blade Etiquette. This resource allows her to unleash powerful strikes that raise both Assault and Disorder damage.

On top of that, Miss Eisme, a new S-Rank Bangboo, supports Agents by floating alongside them and generating effects that restore Energy or HP.

New regions to be unlocked in Zenless Zone Version 2.1: Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort

Sailume Bay from Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1.

Proxies will be able to explore two new zones in Version 2.1: Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort. Located beneath Failume Heights, Sailume Bay serves as the primary setting for Chapter 2 and features a deteriorating coastal town marked by poverty.

Fantasy Resort from Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1.

In contrast, Fantasy Resort offers a sunny, holiday-inspired environment where the seasonal event unfolds. At the Fantasy Resort, Proxies will team up with the Spook Shack to help restore it to its former glory through various aquatic-themed mini-games and challenges. Activities include surfing through obstacle courses with buffs, sea battles aboard yachts, and new fishing gameplay featuring improved mechanics, more species, and less repetition.

Players can help restore the Fantasy Resort to its former glory.

On top of these two new regions, two new areas in the Lemnian Hollow have been added.

Zenless Zone Zero 2.1 will feature a new story arc

Version 2.1’s main story centres on growing tension between Agents Alice and Yuzuha as they investigate a ghost ship near the Fantasy Resort. While Alice follows Porcelumex’s orders with a calm, calculated approach, Yuzuha charges ahead on her own terms. Their opposing personalities clash, with Porcelumex’s influence pushing them further apart. Alongside this, familiar characters return: Manato supports the Spook Shack’s spooky mission, Miss Isolde assists in the aquarium gameplay, and Damian is briefly tied to the evolving story around the Waifei Peninsula.

As the ghost ship investigation unfolds, players uncover a major clue tied to both Porcelumex’s agenda and the mystery surrounding Waifei Peninsula. Belion’s sudden disappearance and strange alien rumours in Aerospace City suggest deeper, connected events in Lemnian Hollow. Though the full truth remains unclear, these threads hint at a much larger story ahead.

Version 2.1 events and log-in rewards

To kick things off for this version, Proxies can claim 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons just by logging in. New avatars featuring Alice, Yuzuha, and other characters will also be available for unlock. Special Trust Events spotlight Alice, Yuzuha, and Yanagi, letting players explore their personalities and stories further. Completing certain milestones also unlocks dynamic wallpapers for Alice and Yuzuha.

Limited-Time summer outfits

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1's summer-themed update adds several new skins.

Summer skins play a major part in the event rewards. A free pair of outfits for the Phaethon siblings can be earned through event progression. Two premium outfits will be available for purchase:

  • Yuzuha’s “Tanuki in Broad Daylight”: Available early in the event.
  • Alice’s “Sea of Thyme”: Arriving in the second half of Version 2.1.

These outfits are styled to match the event’s vibrant tropical theme.

Version 2.1 summer event: Tales of Midsummer Dreams

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1 also features mini-games for Alice and Yuzuha.

In this event, there will be two mini-games where you will either be surfing with Alice or shooting with Yuzuha. The surfing challenge is a timed course filled with obstacles, buffs, and different surfboards to choose from. In the shooting segment, you ride above the water with Yuzuha in a rail shooter, using various ammo types with unique effects to take down flying drones.

Fishing returns in Version 2.1 through the summer event, with several improvements based on player feedback. New zones, species, and fishing modes have been added, alongside streamlined controls that replace button mashing with timed taps and clear previews. Players can fish with Alice or Yuzuha, and trigger special “date” interactions at certain spots. A personal aquarium allows caught fish to be displayed and decorated, offering rewards as it levels up. For added convenience, an Auto-Fishing option lets your Fairy assistant fish in the background, even while logged off.

Bangboo event: En Nah Chess Legend

A new Bangboo event arrives in Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1.

En Nah Chess Legend is a new turn-based Bangboo event in Version 2.1. Players use coins to recruit, upgrade, and fuse Bangboo for automatic battles, with team bonuses activated through type synergies. A PvP mode adds ranked matches, leaderboards, and agent-linked boosts, offering rewards like Polychromes, wallpapers, and titles.

Mini-events and side activities

Several smaller events run alongside the main story:

  • Ghost Ship Operation: Combat missions in summer outfits with horror-themed mechanics. Unlock Alice’s Blade Intercept and Yuzuha’s mission chains.
  • Alien Mystery in Lemnian Hollow: Scan areas for clues in Aerospace City using new perception tools and uncover strange alien legends.
  • Photo Restoration Puzzle: Solve jigsaw-style photo puzzles to reveal memories and earn simple, relaxing bonuses.
  • Seafood Stall Event: Visit A Qiang’s stall daily for a card flip minigame. Rescue a Sharkboo and collect Polychromes and Boopons.
