2XKO: A new League of Legends champion from Freljord is joining the roster

Wielding a shield, he is also accompanied by some fluffy pals who follow him wherever he goes.

Alpha lab playtest signups are underway for  2XKO™, the League of Legends fighting game, and already, a new champion has been announced to join the small roster.

Braum, the Shield of Freljord, was introduced on Thursday (9 July), through a video released on YouTube.

Despite not having any prior previews during Project L, Braum is the sixth champion to join the roster, surpassing Jinx and Katarina, who both had previews in the game's pre-launch.

Who is Braum?

A beloved champion from the Freljord, Braum is known for his immense strength and kind heart—a protector of the weak and a hero to many.

He wields an enormous shield made from an indestructible door, which he uses to defend his allies and withstand any attack.

Raised in the harsh, icy tundra of the Freljord, Braum's legend began when he saved an entire village by tearing down a mountain to create a safe passage for its people. His strength and his unwavering sense of justice and compassion make him a revered figure throughout the land.

Myths and exaggerated stories of his deeds spread, including one about his indestructible shield made by the demigod Ornn.

Braum has crossed paths with Yasuo, Ahri, and Illaoi in Ruined King, the League of Legends turn-based game released in 2021. Before the events of the Ruined King, Braum set sail for the Blessed Isles seeking a cure for a sickness affecting Freljord's children.

After surviving an attack by the Black Mist and losing his shield, he was rescued by the Buhru and helped stop the Ruined King alongside Illaoi, Miss Fortune, Ahri, Yasuo, and Pyke. Upon returning to the Freljord with Yasuo, Braum continued his mission to unite his homeland.

Braum's character design

Braum’s design revolves around his enormous shield, which was once the unbreakable door to an ancient treasure vault. With this shield, he protects allies from incoming damage. Braum excels at disrupting opponents and blocking their attacks, creating opportunities for his team to execute devastating combos.

What’s Braum’s specialisation?

Much like LoL, Braum’s skills are more on the support side. According to the 2XKO™ website, Braum has a “wide range of defensive utilities” and powerful melee attacks.

Of course, the tiny, fluffy Poros that come with him have a special participation in this game.Braum’s little friends are always ready to help him, whether it’s by soaring through the air to catch fleeing enemies or by combining into a massive ball of fluff that deals significant damage.

In the trailer, Braum was able to block heavy attacks with his shield. He also can make some very…uncharacteristic and interesting melee moves that he can use to attack his enemies.

Braum’s shield also turns blue like ice, so we’re guessing this is an empowered skill or attack that allows him to drag his shield around for continuous AoE damage.

Braum’s little friends are ready to assist him however they can, whether it’s by flying through the air to stop fleeing enemies, or by coming together to form a massive ball of fluff that deals tons of damage.

Probably the most interesting move Braum has is when he brings out three frosted cookies and goes “It’s snack time!” before throwing it to the enemy. This is followed by a chaotic snowball of Poros to attack the opponent.

Braum will be playable in the upcoming Alpha Playtest. Know more about the Alpha playtest here. You can also try the character at Evo 2024.
