OGN venture into Hearthstone in 2014, OSL future uncertain

Korean eSports channel OnGameNet posted on their Facebook page that they're planning to focus more on LoL and Hearthstone content in 2014, which in turn might mean the cutting of StarCraft 2 and OSL out of television's program.

The first indication of OGN doing content for Hearthstone came two months ago when Blizzard announced they'll be reworking the WCS format for StarCraft 2 coming into 2014. In the blogpost, Blizzard explained that Gom will remain company's primary broadcast partner for StarCraft 2 in Korea, while OGN will switch to producing "entertainment shows and tournaments" for Hearthstone.

Those words were repeated today on OnGameNet's global Facebook page: When asked about whether OSL will make a return in 2014, the eSports channel posted that they'll be focusing more on doing League of Legends and Hearthstone content.

While LoL has been with OGN since the spring of 2012, Hearthstone will be a completely new discipline for the eSports veterans. Brand's experience with hosting and producing eSports tournaments and content goes back sixteen years with the first editions of the BroodWar OSL in 1999 so them picking up a new game is something to anticipate.

By saying nothing about StarCraft 2 in 2014, it's also possible that OSL will not see a new season this year. The last edition of the tournament was held as a part of WCS Korea and with the tournament now being produced entirely by Gom it's likely that Maru remains the last StarCraft 2 OSL champion.
