Long time Dota player, Maelk has announced his retirement as a player and will be moving to the role of coaching. Bamboe will be the new face of the team and is reported to be making his way to EG's teamhouse in Arizona as we speak.
Just as Fear has hinted in our interview yesterday, big changes have indeed befallen Evil Geniuses as Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Andersen moved into the coaching position.
Brought in to replace the old school player is more daring and exciting player, Alaan 'Bamboe' Faraj who has been seen scrimming and playing in official EG matches in the past couple of days.
The rest of EG squad will be making their way to EG's teamhouse in Phoenix, Arizona in the upcoming week.
Statement by Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Anderson
I am happy to say that I am quitting the competitive circuit, and will instead shift my focus to a new managerial role within Evil Geniuses. After nine years of playing Dota competitively I have long thought about stepping back as a player and instead directing my passion elsewhere. We’ve been looking at the roster for a few weeks now, and I am confident the team will succeed in the qualifier for The International and continue to deliver the results fans have come to expect from the team. I would like to thank both the community and the team for their constant support. I wouldn’t have been able to do this for so long if it weren’t for the support of fans and people in the industry.
Statement by Alaan 'Bamboe' Faraj
I’m excited to join the Evil Geniuses team. After our strong performance in G-1 qualifiers it felt natural to join up with them. I believe that we can become one of the best with the right mindset and dedication.
The change came after a sub-par performance by EG for the last few months and things seemed to have improved drastically with Bamboe standing-in. Criticized for months on end, EG's big break finally came at G-1 League where they took down favourites after favourites before finishing fourth in the qualifiers, two shot of the air travel to China
This is what Jio 'Jeyo' Madayag has posted on Twitter about his move to coaching.
If it wasn't for @themaelk I probably would never have aspired to become competitive at DotA! those MYM days caught my eye. Thanks Jacob.
