DreamHack CEO Robert Ohlen has revealed that originally the Swedes wanted to add a team game to the DH Open tournament series. Partners' focus on Starcraft 2 has made them delay plans to 2014.

DreamHack Stockholm was the first stop of the tournament tour of DH Open, with Valencia, DH Summer, Bucharest and the final at the DH Winter following. Starcraft 2 being the only game played at DreamHack Open was initially not the plan, as CEO Robert Ohlen now revealed in an interview with cadred.

"We had plans in place for this year to actually add another game - a team game - to the Open," Ohlen explained. Whether this team game would have been League of Legends, Dota 2 or the shooter Counter-Strike, he did not further elaborate. DreamHack Open this year has the same structure as last year's Open series.

The expansion to a second game failed due to DreamHack's partners' interest in Starcraft 2: "Whenever we spoke to sponsors about it they were like, 'NOOO, we want Starcraft 2!!!'" According to Robert Ohlen, DreamHack will only run fully-funded tournaments, so the plans for running a team-game at DH Open have been delayed for 2014, also implying they want to continue with the system of DreamHack Open.
