IEM WC Group D Recap

mvpcebit.jpg

Mvp, Stephano, TLO, Grubby. Here's how they did today.

Some have framed the transition to Heart of the Swarm as a cataclysmic passage to an entirely new phase of the game, and for the most part, they might be right, but there are also those who for reasons we have yet to discern, seem to believe the expansion must coincide with Mvp’s downfall. To quote the evidence before us, Mvp’s stay at the top is determined to look indefinite, and his performance at IEM CeBIT was nothing less than dominating. It has been forgotten that Mvp was quick to rise at the onset of Wings of Liberty, when many were enjoying brief periods of attention, and though he sometimes floundered, he always made up for it by winning another GSL.

Today Mvp went 5 - 0 (10 - 2 in map score), beating the likes of Stephano and Dream and being narrowly outperformed by Yonghwa, who in Group A dropped only a single game versus Mvp’s two.

The story of Group D was cemented by Mvp’s dominance but it began with Stephano and TLO, who inaugurated the new day of competition. Both strong Zerg players to be sure, one with with more pedigree than the other, but it remained in doubt how much either of them could accomplish. Stephano always invites optimism, not always without good reason; TLO on the other hand is a professional flounderer. Sitting between them are Golden and Grubby, making up a weird kind of assonance not dispelled by their going 6 - 8 and 3 - 9 in map score respectively. The most that can be said about Grubby’s performance is that it was not TLO’s, who is 2 - 8 and at the bottom of the group.
