With players like DonRaeGu, Bomber, and Taeja in the same group everyone knew this was going to be an intense group. However everyone was surprised to see the endings to some of the matches.
With so many great players in the same group, it was expected that the Code S Group A matches were going to be intense. With DongRaeGu being one of the favorites to win the group by many. However that is not what we saw, instead we saw an intense series of games leading to Taeja and INnoVation advancing. Each game in the series was remarkable and every player should get credit for a great showing including Bomber and DongRaeGu.
INnoVation was favored to advance and he showed why in his matches against Taeja. Showing proficient he is at multitasking in game one by dropping Taeja’s main and still having enough units at home to deal with Taeja’s army. After the battle was over Taeja’s main was decimated forcing him to GG. In game two Taeja does show that he is not going to just roll over by getting pushed into his natural but able to clear the tanks that were sieged on his ramp. However in game three INnoVation demonstrates how critical it can be to have air control early in the game by being able to destroy Taeja’s tanks on the high ground and taking out the rest of his army along with them. Giving INnoVation the series 2-1. He continued on this run of terror tearing through DongRaeGu and defeating him 2-0.
However Taeja would not let his loss to INnoVation be his downfall, facing off against Bomber and going for a very different style of very back and forth marine Medivac pushes. However Bomber makes a critical mistake by leaving his tanks attacking Taeja’s third and takes a group of Marines into Taeja’s main and ends up taking significant losses. Taeja’s army ends up just being too large for Bomber to handle. Taeja continues on a rampage in the second game and takes out Bomber 2-0.
Then we say an epic face off of titans a matchup that many people said DonRaeGu would take. Taeja vs. DonRaeGu turned out to be an epic battle of macro coming down to every last unit each player could train. With game one being a constant struggle for Taeja to keep up with all the pressure DonRaeGu was putting on him. With Mutalisk pressure in Taeja’s main and DonRaeGu’s army knocking on his fourth, Taeja engages DonRaeGu’s army but the Infestors turn out to be too big of a problem and end up forcing Taeja to GG. However Taeja would not let that stop him by forcing his way through and destroying DonRaeGu in the next two games to take the series 2-1. Thereby advancing with Innovation, and knocking DonRaeGu to Code A.
Tomorrow is Code S Group B holding one of the last Protoss players. It remains to see if Squirtle will receive a fate similar to Huk's. Either way I am sure everyone is looking forward to a group with MarineKing, Squirtle, Symbol, and Soulkey.
