Garena Star League reveals more details



The next couple of months will be very interesting for the Heroes of Newerth community all across the world, as the Hon Tour Offline Finals, possible DreamHack qualifiers, the conclusion of the SoundBlaster Heroes League are set to take place. On top of that, Garena is hosting a massive $60,000 USD tournament on SEA soil with the best teams of the world - now they introduced some more details.

These details include the exact schedule, format and also the prize money distribution for the elusive event in Bangkok, Thailand. First off all teams and players will have to arrive on March 27th, three days before the actual event kicks off. The host Garena is planning on video and photo session to maximize the production value as well as having interviews to build up hype for the event. The famous "DreamHack Dinner" also makes a trip to SEA as Garena invites all the players for a joint dinner as well.

After the media day, all teams will get the chance to utilize March 29th for training in a Cyber Cafe for free. The teams can get the last fine tuning in, as they are just mere hours away from one of the biggest events in HoN history.

Tournament Format

Group Stage: 8 Groups, 4 teams each -> Top 2 will be seeded into the Upper Bracket, Bottom 2 will be seeded into the Lower Bracket
Bracket: All matches in the Double Elimination Brackets until the "final" matches will be played in the Best-of-One format
UB/LB Finals: These matches leading up to the Grand Final will be played in the Best-of-Three format
Grand Final: Winner of the Upper Bracket will get a 1-0 head start in the Best-of-Five match


The real action kicks off March 30th with a group stage spectacular. Eight groups of four teams will be featured as all participating 32 teams are battling for a top two finish to be placed in the Upper Bracket of the Double-Elimination brackets. The bottom two of the groups will go directly into the Lower Bracket and will have to fight elimination matches every single time.

All matches except the Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket Final are set to be played in a Best-of-One setting, while those two "pre-finals" are going to be played in Best-of-Three system. The overall Grand Final will see the Upper Bracket participant up by one map in a epic Best-of-Five conclusion of the tournament.

Prize Money Distribution

1. Place: $30,000 USD
2. Place: $10,000 USD
3. Place: $8,000 USD
4. Place: $4,000 USD
5.-8. Place: each $2,000 USD


In terms of prizes the grand total of $60,000 USD will be split up and the Top Eight finishers of the tournament are getting their share of the money. 5th/8th place finishers will each get $2,000 USD in cash. The fourth place finisher takes home $4,000 USD as the podium places give a total of $48,000 USD - the lion's share of the tournament.

Loser of the Consolation (Lower Bracket) Final will be rewarded with $8,000 USD, while the runner up can take home $10,000 USD. The Championship, the honor and prestige as well as $30,000 USD will go to the winner of the two-day extravaganza.

Which teams are going to join the epic battle for $60,000 USD is still undetermined as the registration for all South East Asian teams is closing on February, 23rd, while the NA/EU region is starting their qualifier event on February, 4th.
