GPPC All-Stars going into fourth edition

Warcraft 3 DotA is anything but dead in the Philippines, or at least not yet. In fact, this weekend will mark the 4th leg of the DotA Gigabyte Pacific Pro Circuit (GPPC), one of the several monthly DotA tournaments which cater local gamers.

The 3rd leg of the DotA GPPC received a very warm reception, having more than 500 teams flock and compete on a day of non-stop offline DotA action.

A small portion of last month's attendees

DotA GPPC will have 3 divisions : Girl's Bracket (self-explanatory), Rising Stars (the aspiring and up-and-coming teams) and the All-Stars (the cream of the crop). The tournament follows a Season-type format which gives specific points to an event finish, and the All-Stars make up the top 16 teams of the Point rankings. Leading off the current ranking after 3 legs is Pacific.Palit, the most consistent team so far in the GPPC, placing 1st, 3rd and 2nd respectively. Trailing right behind is last month's Champion, iZone Gigabyte.

Will local teams continue to attend DotA tournaments, or will the steady rise of Dota 2 on the local scene affect the influx of players? More importantly, will we see iZone defend their title, or will eMaxx carry their GEST momentum to win as iZone did last month? While all these are uncertain, one thing can be said of which is sure - it is going to be one fun action-packed Sunday.
