The last KeSPA players fall in WCS Korea

One day before its end, WCS Korea reaches an all-GSL top three as KHAN’s RorO and SKT's Rain finally meet their defeat.

Before RorO could have his final stand, however, it was up to Creator and Rain to put up some sort of a good show and open the day. The series started promising for the KeSPA protoss as Creator’s stargate opening didn’t develop all too well and Rain pummeled his way in with blink stalkers. Several minutes later, now in the second set, Rain was once again close to victory after cancelling Creator’s nexus but a clutch comeback immortal timing attack by the Prime toss leveled the field. And how else would such a back and forth series end but with a miserably failed DT tech and an anticlimactic victory by Creator...

An uphill battle for RorO as he faced the GSL champion? On paper – certainly, not so much in reality. On both Cloud Kingdom and Daybreak, RorO was dealt early jabs with Seed killing naturals or being too rich on stalkers but RorO’s innate talent to survive the mid-game by impeccably controlling his burrow roaches imposed a late-game ZvP scenario on each of the two sets. With a Chinese Great Wall of spines and constant ling raids, RorO was always a pain in Seed’s ass but this was nothing compared to his seemingly immortal deathballs that brought him the 2-0, eliminating Seed from the tournament.

Squirtle met his teammate Parting in the winners bracket final for a quick and one-sided PvP decided mostly by Parting’s stubbornness and his dedication to colossus tech even when facing phoenixes. Needless to say, Squirtle did not have to push too hard to make a victory out of this one and Parting fell down to the losers bracket.

RorO continued with the same ZvP style against Creator as well, using roaches and ling run-byes to fight off enemy timing attacks and bring the match into the later stages in which he seemed most stable. In fact, that is what earned him the win in the opening set on Daybreak and almost sent him to the next round. Almost never covers it in StarCraft, however, and despite playing on par with Creator every step of the way (even neuraling and/or sniping Motherships on a number of occasions), the third set on Ohana was the death of RorO. After pinning the zerg to just one mining base, Creator started throwing zealots to disrupt the peace in RorO’s base, snipe his tech structures and snatch a jaded victory.

WCS Korea, August 24th
Korea Creator2-1 [LBR6]Korea Rain
Korea RorO2-0 [LBR6]Korea Seed
Korea Squirtle2-0 [Winners Final]Korea Parting
Korea Creator2-1 [LBR7]Korea RorO

Despite his loss today, RorO remains the KeSPA player that survived the longest out of all his brethren, having defeated Hack, Leenock, Miya, hero[join] and finally Seed. The runner-up in this ranking, SK Telecom's Rain, ends his run after playing nothing but PvZs and being responsible for the elimination of horror, Leenock, Jaedong and Curious. Today's games also wrote the last lines to the ode for the war between KeSPA and GSL players as the tournament is now dominated by a GSL protoss trio.

Two more matches are left to be played tomorrow before WCS Korea comes to an end. In the lower bracket final, Creator will meet Parting and the winner will advance to the grand final where Squirtle is ready and waiting.
