Dota 2 to be Free-To-Play, but with a "twist", according to Polygon

The International provided first glimpses of the game which so many are now eager to get their hands on.

Undoubtedly the game all DotA fans have been waiting for is to be Free-to-Play with an unexpected "twist", if sources from Polygon are to be believed.

In a shared "yet to be released" podcast interview by Seven Day Cooldown shared early with Polygon, the man behind Valve, Gabe Newell, revealed "It's going to be free-to-play -- it'll have some twists, but that's the easiest way for people to think about it,"

How Valve was going to market Dota 2 has been the subject of furious discussions ever since the original inception of the game. However, this news may come as not much of a surprise considering the many findings of CyBorgMatt which seemed to hint at a In-Game Store of sorts.

Newell went on to state that despite being F2P, the Dota 2 model would be significantly different from the existing models implemented by many other games.

"In a sense, think of individual games as instance dungeons of a larger experience, if that makes sense as a concept."
