GSL May Code S Ro16

Match 1 oGsSuperNova versus oGsTOP

Game 1 @ Metalopolis
The first game on Metalopolis would be a fairly quick game. SuperNoVa spawned at the 9 o'clock position and TOP was close by at the 6 o'clock position. SuperNoVa teched to blue-flame Hellions and attempted a push up the ramp of TOP's but failed to do much damage. TOP also failed at his Banshee harass and loses it to a few Marines of SuperNoVa's. After both players failed to do any damage with their harass, the game would end quickly as TOP moves out with a tank push and gets in good position on SuperNoVa's base. TOP's superior Viking numbers also allowed him to slowly inch closer and closer to SuperNoVa's base. Eventually SuperNoVa is forced to pull his SCVs in an attempt to draw TOP's tank fire as his own forces moved in to take out TOP's tanks. The tanks for TOP would go down, but a lone Banshee and a few Vikings would be left to slowly force SuperNoVa to GG.

Game 2 @ Xel'Naga Fortress
Game two of the day was one of the longest games of the season thus far. The long TvT split the map in half with both players playing very well. Drops would be attempted from both sides, but none of them were effective. The two Terrans would sit their forces in the middle of the map across from each other. The game would eventually be tilted in TOP's favour as SuperNoVa makes the mistake of moving his Marine army too away from his seiged tanks in the middle of the map. TOP would take this chance to move in with his own tanks and take complete control of the middle. With unit losses being taken by both players, the transition game would begin for SuperNoVa.

SuperNoVa techs to Marauders in the hopes of amassing enough to break TOP's contain. This proves to be very ineffective as several Banshees for TOP keep the Marauders at bay. The half an hour long game would eventually conclude with a starved SuperNoVa sacrificing most of his SCVs in an attempt to break TOP's tank contain. He was able to take out all of TOP's tanks, but was unable to destroy all of TOP's forces. TOP would take the match after a long TvT against SuperNoVa.

Match 2 MVPGenius versus oGsNaDa

Game 1 @ Crevasse
Genius opens up with a fast expansion to his back natural while Nada, north of Genius, decides to open up with an early Marine and Marauder push. The push does happen, but no engagement is made as Nada retreats from Genius' base and plays it safe instead. The pace of the game would slow down as neither player really makes an effort at being aggressive. Eventually Nada places his army midway from his base and Genius' base to start a contain. Once he establishes this contain he attempts several drops to harass Genius, but doesn't do any real damage.

Genius would eventually decide to move out, but engages a Nada army that was in the perfect concave position. This caused Genius to fall back while Nada comfortably took his third base. Nada would reestablish his contain. As Genius's resources became low, he was forded to push out against Nada once again. This push is successful and Nada lost his contain which led to Genius harassing Nada's other expansions on the map. Genius would eventually establish a third base, but Nada had already taken a fourth base. Having a third base almost allowed Genius to make a come back, but he was never able to complete it. Nada catches Genius off-guard by sniping Genius' third Nexus quite easily with a force of Marauders and Marines. With his resources and unit count already low, Genius was forced to GG in the end.

Game 2 @ Xel'Naga Fortress
Nada spawned at the 10 o'clock position and took a quick lead in the game with a fast expansion. Genius on the other hand at the 6 o'clock position decides on a Dark Templar rush. This rush was very ineffective as Nada already had turrets up at his natural by the time the Dark Templars made their way to his base. Nada replies with Medivac drops that do quite a bit of damage in hitting key tech structures. At one point , Nada even does a two-prong attack with drops in Genius' main and a push at Genius' natural.

After being harassed constantly, Genius would opt for a timing attack in the hopes of maybe catching Nada off guard. However, this attack is easily repelled by Nada and a counter push would end the game in his favour. Nada even drops a few MULEs as Genius' army retreated. Nada would take the match 2-0.

Match 3 PoltPrime.WE versus sCfOu

Game 1 @ Crossfire
The second TvT of the day started off with an exciting opening from Polt. He attempts a proxy factory Thor rush, but sC opens up with an early Reaper scout and discovers the factory. This stops Polt dead in his tracks and rather than continuing with his rush, he decides on a Banshee harass instead. Polt would catch a few SCVs with his Banshee, but it is quickly driven away once a Viking enters the game for sC. In response, sC dropped two Medivacs full of Marines with stim into Polt's base. This drop would do quite a significant amount of damage having destroyed more of Polt's units than the total units that sC lost in the drop. After the drop, the game slows down a bit and sC places a contain in front of Polt's natural.

With a bizarre decision to maneuver his bio army around sC's contain, Polt would end up leaving his tanks vulnerable to sC's forces. Polt's and sC's bio army would dance around the map a little before Polt attempted to break sC's contain. This was a huge mistake despite the fact that Polt was able to take out all of sC's tanks. After losing his tanks, sC charges in with his own bio army and destroys Polt's tanks along with his natural's Orbital Command. Polt's bio army scrambles to get back and finishes off sC's bio army, but the damage had been done. Polt attempts a counter attack at the end and is met with the sC's new army. Game one would go to sC.

Game 2 @ Crevasse
Spawning at the bottom left, Polt fast expands to his natural while spawning directly north of him, sC teched to a blue-flame Hellion drop. The drop would be very effective in taking out a lot of Polt's SCVs, but the early expansion allowed Polt to keep pace in the game. To ensure that he was able to keep up though, Polt also counter attacked with a small amount of Marines, a Siege Tank and a Banshee. He does take down a few SCVs to keep himself in the game.

The rest of the game would progress with both players pushing back and forth horizontally on the map. sC would be ahead in supply count for the entire game, but a huge blunder ended the game in Polt's favour. In an attempt to push out, sC ends up losing his advantage by running into the concave of Polt's sieged army. sC's army is obliterated and Polt would tie up the match at 1-1.

Game 3 @ Metalopolis
In game three, sC spawns at 3 o'clock and Polt spawns close at the 12 o'clock. These positions were perfect for sC as he floats a Factory right into Polt's base and starts pumping out Hellions. At the same time, sC also runs Marines into Polt's base from the front while Polt was busy shooting away at the factory with his Marines. Hellions eventually start popping out of the Factory for sC and a massive amount of SCVs would fall for Polt. To follow up with his very effective Hellion and Marine harass, sC techs to Banshee. Polt doesn't leave despite being behind considerably. As time went on, sC would simply mass up a large Marine and Marauder army and just walk into Polt's base. The match would go to sC.

Match 4 IMLosirA versus SlayerS_Alicia

Game 1 @ Terminus RE
Losira spawned at the 12 o'clock base and directly south of him was where Alicia spawned. Losira opened up with 16 gas and 15 pool into an expansion at his natural, while Alicia decided on a 3gate expand. There was very little harass from Losira in the beginning and instead, he does a very strong speedling and Roach timing push against Alicia. Alicia's Sentry heavy army would meet Losira's army in the middle of the map and be pushed back. Despite placing down very effective forcefields to defend, Alicia would lose his probe count advantage. Losira's economy at this point would jump way ahead as Losira had taken a third base at the same time as his first push.

Knowing that he was falling behind quickly, Alicia would attempt a timing attack of his own to even the playing field. This would end up being a bad decision. Alicia would attack and place down some very well placed forcefields once again. Although once the forcefields were gone, his army was left wide open for Losira's army to destroy. At this point, Losira counter attacks Alicia's base and inflicts an immense amount of damage but does not finish Alicia off. However, Losira's lead was now too large for Alicia to come back from. Losira would make a final push and the game would end in his favour.

Game 2 @ Metalopolis
Losira would follow the same build as his last game while Alicia would elect for a Stargate into an expand. This would be a huge mistake as Losira's push was just too strong for Alicia to defend. The initial Roach and Zergling push by Losira would take down a considerable amount of Alicia's defences. Not even the best forcefielding by Alicia could stop the push. An almost endless amount of Zergling reinforcements would start streaming into Alicia's natural and it quickly became hopeless for Alicia. He did have a Voidray on the map, but it was almost useless as there were just too many units attacking him. Game 2 would be quickly won by Losira and he would take the final match of the day.
