Hansen is biggest winner of 2011 so far

Gus Hansen has continued his strong play from the last few months of 2010 and surged to the biggest online cash game winner over the first six weeks of 2011 with wins over $2 million.

It seems that a pattern is emerging for Gus Hansen. He won over 2.2 million early in 2009 before losing nearly $8 million from March to December. In 2010, Gus won $1.8 million last February before losing millions in the following months. Hansen was able to right the ship and since the beginning of October Hansen has won over $5 million over roughly 100,00 hands.

Hansen has done particularly well in $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha cap games, and $200/$400 PLO games on Full Tilt Poker. He has also been very active in the draw games, where despite poor January results, he has done quite well. It appears players like Dan 'jungleman12' Cates, David Benefield and Phil Galfond have donated a combined couple million as they learn the game.

During the current week, Gus Hansen continued to roll taking down $570,434 in eight sessions totaling 651 hands. Time will tell if Hansen is able to maintain his profitable play for many more months in 2011 or settle into the disturbing pattern of the last several years.
