Chris Sigaty: 'We want to add chat channels'

PC Gamer interviewed Chris Sigaty, Starcraft II’s lead producer, about the latest patch and further updates. The Blizzard team would like a new update "out by the end of the year."

Chat is the other major thing we want to get in the next patch.
Asking Chris Sigaty, what the new patch will include, he says that the main focus of the patch lies on e-sport-ability. Also new features in the editor should be addressed.

- "A couple of big things that will be in there are support for the season rolling, so players can look at the history of how they did in past seasons. There will be bugfixes, balance changes and tweaks, too. [...] We’ll also add more significant features to the editor."

The latest patch 1.1, released on Wednesday, 22nd September 2010, limited on built times of units and buildings, and decrease of damage, only slightly addressing balance issues.

Ultimately, the 1 to 1 is the are we want to keep as sacred as possible.
- "You can go up and read on the forums at any one time and there are a bunch of different theories about balance and imbalance. We’re being very cautious about making large swinging changes right now because at the highest level things are actually very strong. The things that we’ll probably be addressing are the 2v2 and larger scale games."

Chris Sigaty closes the interview, stating that balancing "is an ongoing process that, honestly, will take a year of longer to do."

Discuss: Will we see chat channels this year? Is it a step in the right direction by Blizzard?
