WCG China 2010 bringing you to fever pitch

The Chinese qualification rounds for the long-awaited World Cyber Games have been announced with four groups holding a total of 26 players to battle for the glory of representing China in the prestigious event.

he Regional Finals will be held from July 23 through July 25 in Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Centre and there are many reasons to get excited as the Chinese competitive WarCraft 3 scene has somewhat intensified over the last year.

The event already sports a lot of accomplished players that make up the 26 glory-hungry competitors, such as Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li, Zhuo 'TeD' Zeng, Weiliang 'Fly100%' Lu and Xiang 'TH000' Huang to name a few. Rising talents like Bei 'Moonfans' Li and Yuzong 'Blast' Wang will also be there to cause a stir.

As you might have noticed, two of the major contenders, namely 'Sky' and 'TeD' share the same group and will have to maintain 1st or 2nd place if they want to qualify for the knockout phase. The same can be said about 'InFi' and 'Sai' in group B, 'Fly100%' and 'TH000' in group D.

While these groups tend to balance towards the "Will-the-favorites-deliver?" pattern, Group C in particular is the end of the spectrum as it looks hard to predict its outcome with the likes of Shenghui 'Future' Li, Kejing 'Like' Li, 'Moonfans' and 'Blast' competing for the qualifying spots.

The map pool that will be used in the tournament is as follows: Turtle Rock, Echo Isle, Twisted Meadows, Terenas Stand and Ancient Isle.

The groupstage games will be played in a Bo3 format, allowing two players to qualify from each group which yields a total amount of 8 players in the single knockout phase. The latter will be conducted in Bo3 too and will decide the final three winners.

WCG 2010 Global Finals will take place in Los Angeles, USA, at the LA Convention Center, spanning from September 30 through October 3, 2010.
