The highs and lows of MPL ID Season 9's first week

This past weekend saw a plethora of MLBB action, with Mobile Legends Professional League kicking of its ninth season in Indonesia.

After a break between seasons, teams have returned fresh and ready to take on all challengers in their path at MPL ID Season 9. While Onic Esports and RRQ Hoshi participated at the M3 World Championships, other teams were definitely training, strengthening their lineups in hopes of becoming champions of one of the strongest regions in Mobile Legends. Over the recent weekend, we saw some massive plays, but the games went almost entirely in the way that was expected, with no big surprises.

Excelling already

RRQ Hoshi and the Robots

Both RRQ and Bigetron Alpha played in what were two of the biggest series over Week 1 of MPL ID Season 9, taking on Alter Ego and EVOS Legends respectively. For RRQ, they were looking to bounce back after a strange dip in form following an immaculate Group Stage at M3. The team did exactly that, beating both Geek Fam ID and AE without dropping a single game. Against their rivals, AE, Alberttt caused chaos once more, dominating from his jungle with ease.

At the same time, Bigetron had no easy task in their two series, even struggling against Rebellion Zion for a moment. However, BTR will be looking to get back to their best, having dropped by six places between Season 7 and 8. A solid start for the Robots – but both BTR and RRQ will be facing each other for the first time in Season 9 next week. A series that should be extremely entertaining.

Still struggling

RBG and Geek Fam

In Season 8 of MPL ID, both Rebellion Zion and Geek Fam ID struggled to really gather any momentum, losing game after game. The only bright side for GF, was a win over RBG, while the later recorded no outright victories. Sadly, merely from the first week, this process seems like it may repeat itself. However, there are small glimmers of hope for both these teams.

While both faced off against some extremely difficult opponents, in the form of RRQ, AE, Onic, and BTR, it’s possible that RBG have a bit of an advantage. The team actually looked very promising, taking a game off the Robots on Day 1. We will have to wait for the season to unfold to find out more – but Week 2 should be interesting as these two teams go head-to-head.

All-in-all, MPL ID Season 9’s first week of action was exactly what we expected, with the top teams coming out strong, leaving the others in their wake already. That said, this is only Week 1, and with seven more weeks of action to go, anything can happen.
