Onic PH vs BTK at M3

Onic PH are the first M3 grand finalists

With only four teams remaining at the M3 World Championships, we went into our penultimate day, which begun with the upper bracket finals.

M3’s upper bracket had seen some massive shock results, but for Onic PH, they were showing the brilliance of Philippines on the top side, while Blacklist International were showing it from the lower bracket. However, their opponents in the upper bracket final today were the ones causing all kinds of chaos, as BloodThirstyKings had already dropped Blacklist and EVOS SG down, and now the North Americans were looking for another upset.

Game one would set the pace for these two teams, but unfortunately for BTK, they seemed far off the mark. Although taking a few kills in the early game period, BTK were far from being able to stop Onic, especially as we moved into the mid-game period. At every turn, when BTK tried their hardest to find pickoffs, something was there to stop them, as Hatred and Kairi combined forces to destroy the NA squad – shutting down MobaZane from being a real threat.

As we went into the next game, Onic never once seemed as though they would drop their guard or let up on the pressure. While FwydChicken drafted an Aldous, Onic made sure that there was absolutely no chance for him to build up to anything great, as they quickly found their second victory – moving to match point, and looking to be the first grand finalist of M3.

While we saw a far better game from BTK next, not letting their opponents get too far ahead, it still was nowhere near enough to take down Onic, who were unstoppable. After 22-minutes, BTK made one final stand in their base, which looked very promising. Unfortunately, even after claiming a few crucial kills, the NA team were outclassed and outplayed, as Onic secured a clean 3-0 victory.

For Onic PH, the win will see them moving on to tomorrow’s grand final, while BTK will have to now play another series today as they take on either EVOS SG or Blacklist, both teams which they have already beaten – but whether or not they can do that again in the lower bracket finals is what will decide if they get a grand final rematch against Onic, or fall in the top 3 at M3.
