French season growing?

[s]event[/s]For all of you gamers out there who missed the coverage of "Ogogo versus FrenchTeam", read the article and check out the replays. But that's not the essence of this news. The same internet cafe that gave us that exciting event, UltimaGate PC Room (in Paris) have givin us even more fun! They have organized one of the biggest offline BroodWar tournaments in France, since they are by now one of the most well known LAN Arenas.

About the tournament and its participants. 64 French players were to compete for the honour and glory! One of the interesting parts (just looking at the participant list) is that many old, very well known, French players came back to participate. MoMaN, IIIce, SDT~), NoHope and Kolargol! To make this line up even better, add the top French players such as: BunDy, AspeaK, JoS, KenShin, PZio, RaiZen, Cast, SickNess and Hasurdom. You will soon realize what the tournament is about and why there is going to be so much prestige about it!

Moving into the early brackets we can see surprises as some unknowns (on the international stage) shocked many with some nice skills which were followed by nice results. Yohta defeated both MoMaN and nB)HeaL with an amazing TvZ. Maybe the fact that many top French players such as KenShin, PZio, Cast and JoSlost early in both winner and loser brackets. zerizeblem and X_Line also impressed many as they defeated some of the best French players.

In the semi-finals some interesting results, BunDy beat Yotha (PvT) and Aspeak won a 2-1 victory against zerizeblem, in a tight game. One of the biggest surprises in this very surprising tournament was that to get to Aspeak zerizeblem had to defeat both e-Toile)vampyr and MgZ)SickNess. Some skills were shown against these two highly respected zerg players! In the semi-finals (now loser bracket) we saw that IIIce defeated both MgZ)SickNess and then RaiZen-NRV to reach a place in the looser bracket final. Hasurdom defeated both X_line and zerizeblem.

The finals, as a number of times before, was between BunDy and Aspeak. In previous offline tournaments we have seen Aspeak being the victor on two occasions, but when facing Bundys highly skilled protoss one can never be sure of the outcome. The loser in this final will face IIIce for the second and third spots in the tournament. The final will be played online (hopefully enabling us to get to the replays quicker!).

This has truly been a great tournament as there have been both surprises and new faces making a name for themselves. Hopefully we will be able to upload the replays as soon as possible to give you a piece of the cake. The players participating in this tournament are now qualified to compete in the offline tournament taking place in Caorentras (Southern France) in March, where the winner will receive €500.

Other results and players that might be interesting to know where they ended up are given below.
