Riot Games will change the pricing options for its League of Legends champions

Riot finally brings about change to its pricing model.

Riot Games will be bringing about plenty of changes when the League of Legends patch 13.5 drops on March 8, which includes a much-needed revamp on its current pricing options for its League of Legends champions. This is to attract new and returning players into the LoL ecosystem while also acknowledging that its current pricing model is too old.

Aside from revising its current pricing model, Riot also plans to introduce new champion bundles for new players. This will allow them to unlock multiple champions from different tiers at a much cheaper price while also saving on Blue Essence. Each tier of the champion bundles will cover different gameplay roles, giving beginners multiple options to start their grind with.

As for the new pricing system, it will still take a champion's age into account. It will now be done by the number of seasons a champion has been in the game, as opposed to counting by new champions before them. Ultimately, this means that new champions will start with an initially high price before dropping as time goes on.

The longer time a champion spends in the pool, the more affordable it becomes. After the first week, the prices of these champions will be reduced. These champions will also be placed in a tier based on data from players. As for champions with visual updates, core gameplay updates, or mid-scope updates that change tiers, they may also get price updates depending on popularity.

League of Legends Champions Prices Tier List

  • 450 BE / 260 RP - Champions that are awesome for new players.
  • 1350 BE / 585 RP - Champions that are a bit more complex than the lower tier, but still approachable for interested folks.
  • 3150 BE / 790 RP - Champions that have a higher degree of difficulty or specialization in their play.
  • 4444 BE / 880 RP - Only perfection and beauty are allowed at this tier.
  • 4800 BE / 880 RP - The majority of the roster will live here.
  • 6300 BE / 975 RP - Champions that have come out in the past two seasons, after which they will move to the tier above after the next season starts.
  • 7800 BE / 975 RP - Champions that have come out in the past week.

This will allow beginner champions like Miss Fortune and Yuumi to cost less while champions like K'Sante will cost more. Riot will also increase the prices for certain champions that are good, but difficult for beginners. This includes the likes of Ryze, Twisted Fate, Singed, and Kayle. These four champions will have their Blue Essence cost increased to 4800, but RP cost will stay at 260 RP.

The new pricing model will be available come Wednesday, March 8 with patch 13.5.
