The fourth time's the charm for Gen.G Esports.

For the first time in the organisation's history, Gen.G Esports are finally LCK champions. They defeated T1 in the grand finals of the LCK Summer Split in an impressive 3-0 sweep. This comes after the last time they faced in the LCK Spring Split grand finals, which T1 won 3-1.

Having been second-best for the first half of the 2021-22 season, Gen.G stepped it up during the summer split. The team went 17-1 during the group stages with their only loss coming against (you guessed it!) T1. While they did come close to matching T1's undefeated record in the spring, Gen.G was overtly dominant during the playoffs.

In their 3-0 victory against T1, Gen.G utilised both Aatrox and Sejuani to great effect with both Hyeon-Joon "Doran" Choi and Han "Peanut" Wang-ho performing great during the first two games. However, it was Peanut who ended up claiming the Finals MVP award. His amazing jungle plays were crucial in throwing T1 off their tempo and keeping them on their toes.

With this key victory, Gen.G secures their spot in the upcoming world championship where they will be hoping to improve on their current track record. Their first appearance was in 2018 when the team exited during the group stages whilst their second time was quarterfinal playoff elimination in 2020. The team's best performance to date came last year in a semifinal finish and they will be hoping to make it one step closer to hoisting the Summoner's Cup.

As for T1, they will also be heading to Worlds with their championships points. With that, we now look ahead to the LCK Regional Finals, which will include the likes of DWG.KIA, SANDBOX Gaming, KT Rolster, and DRX. DWG will face off against SANDBOX for the first slot while KT and DRX will go up against one another for the last slot.

The LCK Regional Finals will kick off from September 1 - 3 to determine who else will be joining both Gen.G and T1 in North America in a month.
