[OFFICIAL] Riot Games retires Rift Rivals from League of Legends esports competitive circuit

In light of the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) around the world, Riot Games has moved to the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational from May to July. As a result, Summer Splits in leagues around the world will start significantly earlier than planned to accommodate for the new dates of MSI 2020, which will run from July 3rd through July 19th.

It isn't a surprise that Rift Rivals 2020 was cancelled as a result of the inevitable changes in schedule, but Riot Games also made it sound in its initial announcement that this would mark the end of Rift Rivals for good.

"Additionally, after reviewing the calendar and listening to feedback from our teams and players, we have decided to sunset Rift Rivals in the remaining regions where the tournament was scheduled to take place,"
