SK Svenskeren fined and suspended for three matches following racially insensitive behavior

Riot Games came with a ruling today that SK Gaming's jungler Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen has been fined $2,500 and will be missing three World Championship matches due to adopting a racially offensive summoner name.

The story begins two days ago when Svenskeren and SK Gaming landed in Taipei in preparation of their upcoming World Championship games in Group B. Upon registering a practice account, Svenskeren selected the summoner name "TaipeiChingChong", a handle with racially offensive overtones in its overt mockery of the Chinese language. In addition to the handle, Svenskeren reportedly "engaged in inappropriate behavior on the Taiwan server", reads Riot's official statement. League operations manager Nick Allen further writes:

Johnsen’s racially insensitive actions reflect poorly on himself, his organization, and the esports community. As a player on the world stage he is held to the standards of an ambassador of his organization, his region’s league, and League of Legends as a whole. At no point should these types of comments be tolerated.

Given Johnsen’s record of poor behavior and the fact that his actions occurred despite multiple warnings and a cultural sensitivity briefing, we view this most recent incident as severe misconduct. There is no place for this behavior in our sport, much less on the world stage.

Riot's ruling will penalize Svenskeren with a $2,500 fine and suspension for three World Championship matches. Should the penalty come in effect effective immediately, Svenskeren will skip the entire group stage phase of the world championship and the matches against Royal Club, TSM and TPA. SK Gaming's substitute jungler Berk "Gilius" Demier has already been flown to Taiwan in the possible case of Svenskeren's immediate suspension.
