RIOT clarifies season three exclusivity

The situation surrounding League of Legends’s third season has led to some people thinking that RIOT wanted exclusivity. Redbeard explains that that isn’t the case.

It’s been a while since RIOT announced its expansive plans for season three. The idea that the best teams from each region will be salaried while they play in a unique league left many questions in people’s minds. Chief among them, some people thought that RIOT were wanting to sign teams exclusively to League of Legends. But as Redbeard explained on the official forums, this is not the case. “We are not requiring team organizations to be exclusive to League of Legends,” he wrote.

The idea of the new system, in RIOT’s words, is “to do our best to over deliver on the expectations of our fans.” Some community figures have expressed discomfort over similarities to the failed CGS league, but Redbeard is aware of the risks involved. “We have decided to take on some ambitious and unconventional risks,” he wrote. “We have made a very large commitment to eSports.” He insisted that RIOT has only the best intentions at heart: “we believe our initiative and investment in eSports will help every competitive game.”
