gg22bb.jpg

The finals of GG22BB are over! After only three games in the best out of five match pG, with Testie and Mondragon, had beaten ItchyFingerTriggerNiggers, eSa.ScHnibl0r and rAiSeR(d.S. The confident pG players once again showed that they do know how to play this game.

After a couple of long weeks the very last game of GosuGamers 2on2 Beta Battle was held yesterday. The big favourites from pG showed to be just as good as everyone thought, beating all of their opponents. The final against ItchyTriggerFingerNiggers, eSa.ScHnibL0r and rAiSeR(d.S, was won with the score 3-0, proving quite a lot of the strength the German/Canadian couple do have.

Interviews

After the finals GosuGamers catched both the winners Mondragon and Testie, as well as the runner-up, ScHnibL0r, for some short questions. One can definitely tell that the pG players are confident when it comes to playing 2on2 matches.

Who did you consider your hardest opponent trough the tournament? Did any of the teams put up a good fight?
Hmm... It was our opponents of the semifinals (and the group as well) – SomE. At least the semi final match turned out to be a tough battle versus them. Same thing against GN. We do not like playing ZZ vs. ZZ. That’s why we lost the first game in both matches and then we switched to other races.

Were you secure about the win, or did you feel preassured at some point?
Hmm. I have not got any pressure for the whole tournament. Testie and me feel kinda confident in 2on2.

What do you think make a good 2on2 team? Is individual skill important, or is team play the key?
A good 2on2 team have to know what to do without chatting. They must have the right timing in the right situation without chatting and therefore you need to know what your partner will make. It's both the individual skill and the team play since you can't have the necessary micro / game understanding if you aren't a good player at all.

If a similar event (with a lot better organisation and a way better system than this) would be held by GosuGamers, would you be interested in defending the title?
Of course. Challenge us guys! :D

Thanks a lot and congratulations!
Thanks as well! Bye! :]

What did you think of the three games in the grand final?
Sorry to say, but I think they were fairly easy / short and not very interesting! I was playing fairly badly but luckily Mondi picked up the slack. They (ScHnibl0r and rAiSeR) are probably a fairly good team together, but their inexperience together showed.

Mondragon said you and him feel very confident in 2on2's. Why are you performing so well together?
We are simply better than everyone and understand the game at a far deeper level. It is why when Mondragon plays PGT regularily he can go 50-3. And why another person who plays PGT goes 50-30. There is a VAST difference in skill between the two players. Though in a BO3 that 50-30 player might be able to beat Mondi, with a lot of luck or a lot of practice to make up the vast skill / knowledge difference.

2v2 is all about a deep understanding of the game and the most subtle things count. Add that onto our normally superior macro / micro and it is just evident who wins.

Who were your toughest opponents?
Hm, probably Fabian and Dance4Me (SomE). But they weren't really all that difficult. We lost the first game in each series because I messed up twice in those semis and lost us two games. But, serves Mondi right, he lost us our last game or two! So it's about time I lose some for us.

Were the maps alright, or should they have been different?
Hm, you're asking the wrong guy. I never care what the maps are. Though, I do dislike Gaema just because it's so very bland.

LIKE HONESTLY
FOR GODS SAKE
CHOOSE BETTER MAPS ZOXXER!!

If GosuGamers were to arrange another 2on2 event like this (with better format and better organisation), would you be interested in defending your title?
I would not be ->interested<- in defending my title. I WOULD defend the title. I say that because in 2v2 the game can be controlled so much more easily than 1v1 since there's no early luck factor. You know, "Oh shit! I randomed zerg and he 8 raxed and I scouted him last, that punk!"

And no there's no question whether we would lose or not. Unless he's inebbriated and my hands hurt too much, then maybe Jesus stepped down from heaven to lend our opponents an extra $100 minerals at the start!

Hehe, I can see it in front of me... Comments will be all like "OMG! Testie is such an arrogant f*ck!".
Yeah, I see it too. But eh, that's the price you pay to spice up an interview!

Thanks a lot, and congratulations to the win. Any shout outs?
ARgh!!! Um!! Omg shoutouts?! Why do you have to say it like that?!

(10 minutes later)
Yeah a big shout out to Mondragon, my ally. Everyone on [pG], like Eri / Zia / Jamie / Anon / Grezr0g0rgrzr0g. Not the Dutch though, like Twisted. Oh man, he's so Dutch. Riles my blood just thinking of him. And last, but most importantly the love of my life Janice!!! Rumour has it she once beat Boxer and Nada 1v2 blind folded with hooks for hands.

Oh wait! And one more. A shout out to Murph - perhaps the best human being I've ever met. Oh crap, wait. He's got competition from Daaman and Eri too I guess. Hmm, oh well that's all yeah.

What do you think of the games in the final?
All games were one sided, and I pretty much sucked in each of them.

Do you think Mondragon and Testie were the right ones to win, or do you think any other team should be GG22BB champions?
No, they were definitely the right ones. Best 2on2 team outside of Korea, no doubt.

How did you like the maps? Was the map pool, alright or would you have picked different ones if you got the chance?
Hmm, the maps were okay. But I think losers choice is better than the way it was in the final tournament – maps decided for each game. A pool of 10 balanced maps and the loser get’s to pick would have been better.

Except for pG, who were your toughest opponents?
No one, they were the only ones better than us, as I see it.

If GosuGamers organised a similar event, with a better system and a better organisation, would you participate to get revenge on the pG players?
Yes, definitely.

Thanks a lot, and congratulations to the good performance in the event.
No problems, thanks.

Match reports

Below you can find detailed match reports from each of the final games between pG and ItchyTriggerFingerNiggers. Naturally it starts off with game number one.

Game 1 – Guillotine – Testie[pG] + Mondragon[pG] vs. RAiSeR(d.S + eSa.ScHnibL0r

Both Mondragon and Testie opens with a Spawning Pool and Extractor build, going speed upgraded Zerglings. ScHnibL0r is slower with his Spawning Pool, and RAiSeR goes a standard Supply Depot before Barrack build. The ITFN Zerg adds a second Hatchery, and his ally builds another Barrack.

As both Mondragon and Testie get Zerglings pretty quick they attack ScHnibL0r, who had to build two Sunken Colonies. One of them were killed though, and Testie brought a Drone. He is of course trying to build an offensive Sunken Colony.Although, luckily for ScHnibL0r the Sunken Colony that still lives reaches the Drone, so Testie can’t build anything.

game18jk.gif

More Zerglings comes from Mondragon and Testie, and they eventually attack ScHnibL0r. They succeed in doing so, and ScHnibL0r is out of the game. He has to send away all of his Drones and his buildings are being attacked by Zerglings and it doesn’t take long until his buildings are all disappeared.

RAiSeR finally got an army big enough to move out with, and he heads towards Mondragons base. Mondragon has built a Hatchery at his entrance, and has no Sunkens there yet. The only units he has except for drones are at ScHnibL0r’s former base, but quickly starts to move home. With no defense in his main Mondragon loses two Creep Colonies he has built at his Hatchery at the entrance. The Zerg player loses two Sunken Colonies he has built, but he gets the situation under control by attacking with Drones and Zerglings.

Meanwhile, Testie is teching to Lurkers at his base. Another force from the Terran is attacking Mondragon. The Hatchery at the Zerg entrance is killed, but with a bunch of Sunken Colonies and some Zerglings in the base he is able to handle the situation. RAiSeR is producing from five Barracks, and Testie is morphing his first Lurkers in the middle of the map.

RAiSeR moves out with yet another force of units, but this time Testie has burrowed Lurkers near the Terran base. A bunch of Marines disappears, but Terran is still able to get passed and build a Bunker with units right outside of Testie’s base. Mondragon masses Drones and takes an expansion. RAiSeR tries to be offensive with the units outside of Testie, but he is stopped by Lurkers. He also tries to kill the three Lurkers outside of his own base, but fails to do so and decides to admit defeat after that.

Game 2 – Incubus – Testie[pG] + Mondragon[pG] vs. RAiSeR(d.S + eSa.ScHnibL0r

The pG players are both going similar builds. Hatchery near the entrance, following up with a Spawning pool, everything before making the first overlord. ScHnibLor makes an early Spawning Pool, and RAiSeR goes for a Supply depot followed by a Barrack, very close to his Command Center. A second Barrack is added for the Terran, and as Mondragon and Testie builds an Extractor each ScHnibL0r starts building his second Hatchery.

Due to their build orders, Mondragon and Testie both get Zerglings very early. They move out immediately and hads towards ScHnibL0r’s base. The ITFN Zerg has just about enough Zerglings to scare the rushing Zergs, and when he gets a Sunken Colony up the pG players backs off. RAiSeR builds a third Barrack, and produces some Firebats.

game29mp.gif

Mondragon and Testie gather Zerglings outside of ScHnibL0r. The later gets a second Sunken Colony up just before the pG players make their move. With a far superior number of Zerglings, and more of them just coming to help, they slaughter the poor Zerg base. They retreat when Mondragon’s base is attacked by a small number of Terran units. With the massive amount of Zerglings they are able to handle it, although, not without losses.

More Terran units moves out, and a fourth Barrack is added. Sunken Colonies are being built at both the Zerg bases, and Zerglings are ready to attack. RAiSeR’s Firebats are pretty scary though. Even more Terran units moves out, and when they reach the rest an attack is launched on Mondragon. With the German’s three sunken colonies and Zerglings, Testie first decides to counter RAiSeR instead of helping and a large amount of Zerglings moves to the Terran main. As Mondragon is having a lot of troubles defending he changes his mind at last, and together they eliminate the Terran army, winning them the game.

Game 3 – Nostalgia – Testie[pG] + Mondragon[pG] vs. RAiSeR(d.S + eSa.ScHnibL0r

The two Zerg players both start off by building a second hatchery close to their ramps. The Terran playing RAiSeR goes for a Supply Depot at his entrance, a Barrack next to it, and yet another Barrack shortly after that. Testie warps in one Gateway at the same time as he builds an assimilator on ScHnibL0rs gas, as well as taking his own shortly after that.

Mondragon is teching towards a Spire, aiming for Mutalisk. Due to the loss of gas ScHnibL0r had he is way behind and decides to expand and aim for Hydralisks. ITFN moves out with a bunch of Zerglings and Marines + Medics, but as Mondragon builds a number of Sunken Colonies at his entrance he is pretty safe, and fast teching Testie has two cannons behind a couple of Zealots and a Dragoon at his ramp, so there’s not much to do at that point for RAiSeR and ScHnibL0r.

As Mondragon’s Spire finishes and he starts building some Mutalisks Testie adds a third cannon and a Robotics Support Bay, as his Robotics Facility finishes. He is obviously going Reavers. RAiSeR builds a third Barrack.

ITFN gathers their units outside the Protoss base, and RAiSeR throws in two SCV’s. The SCV’s starts to build a bunker each to contain the Canadian. What they don’t know is that Testie already has a Shuttle loaded with one Reaver and two Zealots in ScHnibL0r’s base, in company of some Mutalisks from Mondragon.

The attack does some damage, killing a Spore Colony and some Drones, as well as ScHnibL0r’s Spawning Pool before an army of Hydralisks and Marines + Medics can defend. Outide of Testie’s base there now is four Bunkers. RAiSeR starts building a Factory in his base. The Canadian is running three Gateways, producing Zealots.

With the majority of his forces outside of Testie’s base Mondragon stabs the Terran main, running inside with Zerglings and coming with Mutalisks. At the very same time Testie moves a Reaver forward, attacking the bunkers. Hydralisks are coming to help the attack against Testie, and the Reaver dies after killing a lot of units. In the base of Testie two additional Gateways can be seen. The main of RAiSeR is pretty much screwed; no SCV’s left, buildings being killed and just a few Marines coming to defend. Mondragon expands between his and Testies main bases as well as between him and RAiSeR.

game33eu.gif

Testie makes a Templar drop, storming Drones in the main of ScHnibL0r, who changed his mind about attacking Testie, doing an attack at one of Mondragons expansion attempts. Instead of saving the expansion Mondragon instead counters and moves in with a swarm of units over ScHnibL0rs base, which is clearly going to die. ITFN doesn’t even try to defend the Zerg base nor do any attack on the pG players. Good Game from ItchyTriggerFingerNiggers, pro-Gaming are the GG22BB champions!
