The sixth cycle of the HoN Tour Diamond Division went the usual path on the first weekend, but then saw Lions eSports demolish their foes on the second weekend. For the first time sG is not falling just once during a Diamond cycle, but is losing two matches - Lions breaking yet another streak.
The HoN Tour Diamond Division is the highest division and the highest honor that Western teams can play for. In the last couple of weeks the league narrowed down to the duel between Lions eSports and record setting champion stayGreen, who met each other a plethora of times and in the last four Grand Finals. That overall score of Grand Final battles is equal now, as Lions eSports roared to their second HoN Tour Diamond Division Championship in the last few weeks.
They already wrote history back in the third cycle, when they snapped the illustrious winning streak of stayGreen in the Upper Bracket Semis and went on to get into their first ever appearance in the Grand Finals. Unfortunately for the Sweds, the results of that match didn't quite go their way - something that changed one cycle later. stayGreen battled back though after that loss, proceeded to reclaim the crown in Cycle 5 and put their new rivals down in the Sound Blaster Heroes League as well.
Now it was time for some more Lions revenge, as they did not only oust the reigning champions around swindlemelonzz once in the cycle, but swept and obliterated the star-studded roster twice on one weekend. First it was a surprisingly clean and clear 2-0 in the Upper Bracket Finals, then it was a 3-0 sweep in the Grand Finals. Just like the G-League finals today, the excitement level was rather low, since Lions were just playing out of their minds today. In the last game, sG tried to go out of the box and gave their carry star Chessie an unusual hero in Hellbringer, but the curveball was not enough to salvage the game or the series.
In the end Lions eSports can look at their most dominant cycle yet, in which they post sG-like numbers. Undefeated throughout the first weekend, not a single map loss on the second weekend and a second Diamond crown are elevating Lions eSports even further above their rivals in Too Much Sugar, Reason Gaming and Internet Gangsters, while narrowing the gap towards stayGreen right before the big DreamHack Winter tournament.
