ilnp - in the air again!

[subject_wcg]The wcg qualifications in St. Louis have just been played, and afterwards it sadly stood clear that the WDT winner finished second to last. He was eliminated by a random kid (or a non-famous one, so to speak). This was the first of the minor qualifications who all eventually will lead up to the grand final in New York.

Results:

1. rS.Day[9]
2. rS.Tasteless[9]
3. rS.Rose[9]
4. MightySquirrel69
5. Oops(707)
6. SureShot
7. DDrz (ilnp, wdtour winner)
8. Qwerty[DG]

This of course brings back bad flashes from the WDT scandal where ElkY and Smuft, the WDT managers, got accused of cheating by letting a zerg progamer from their team (possibly junwi or jinnam) play for ilnp since they, according to sources like L.Nazgul[pG], did not get permission from the AMD sponsor to start the event.

As many of you may remember there was a series of strange happenings which all talked in favor of this theory. For example, when ilnp played ret and was almost dead he disconnected (saying his computer didn't work even though there had not been any problems earlier on) ElkY and Smuft, the WDT-admins said after watching the replay that he had won.

ilnp, who had played mediocre in the ladder now played very secure and had no problems advancing through brackets by beating players like VeG[pG] and ToT)aCe( (aka ret).

But the most mysterious thing about it was his playing style. In the ladder ilnp used his hotkeys a lot differently than in the play-off, a fact that he explained by saying he often changes hotkeys because he is not bound by them. Ok, i can buy that but what about the APM?

The now famous program BW chart which was released about one week after ilnp defeated Draco in the finals cleverly show how many actions per minute the player makes. In the ladder ilnp has a high point at 163 APM and a lowest at 143. In the play-off on the other hand, he lied steadily on 290-310. This oddly enough is the exact same APM that jinnam has in his games.

ilnp also has a long history of cheating. He got a trip to Korea and a sponsor ship with the KPGA ladder (i think?) by letting his pro friends play for him. He also has been caught hacking twice and even if he says that he did not cheat in the tournament, one can't help but wonder...

And so now, some time after WDTour ilnp can't even manage to win one game in a small wcg qualification. He, who once knocked out the European, Asian and American top players on his way to the Korean leagues, now finishes second last in a qualification for the read qualification tour..

So, where does this leaves us?
If ilnp really cheated his way through WDT i think the only ones who know the truth are those involved, or not involved. Is it sad that he finishes second to last in a small qualification even when he won WDT not so long ago?

Yes, I would say so.. Not because i feel sorry for ilnp not qualifying, but more because of the reason that this is just one less building stone of the trust and joy that has been holding up our community.

I started to play for the fun of it and when i think back to the 3:3 BGH days I can't help feeling a little blue since it seems to me that the news and daily talk more and more focus on hackers and abusing.

Is this really where we want our beloved community to go?

If we realy want our community to florish as a place of joy (ok a little to much flowerpower, but what are you gonna do about it?) I think we all need to think a little less of who is owning who and a little more on the reason the majority of us started playing for, for the fun of it!
