We’re about halfway through the second phase of HGC Open Division and as only eight teams will advance to the playoffs every single cup is vital.
Yesterday about 20 teams faced off in our best-of-three bracket to determined the winner for the fourth North American Open Division Cup.
Tonight in the first semifinal, Donkeys R Us will face Imported Support. Donkeys R Us has earned third place in every single cup this phase but were finally able to break into the top two in the previous cup. They currently sit at first place in the standings and are sitting fairly pretty right now as they ride the rest of the cups out until the playoffs. Imported Support has had a roller coaster of performance through this phase, earning second place in most of their cups but sit safe at fourth place overall.
In the other semifinal, HeroesHearth (former Held it Down) will face Flame is Lame. HH is undoubtedly the team to beat this season winning just about all cups this phase. While they sit at second place overall, they're only 30 points behind Donkeys R Us and have a good chance to take the top spot and the best seeding going into the playoffs. While Flame is Lame sits at the third spot overall they've earned top four in the past two cups and if they continue this they'll be able to firmly secure their spot in the playoffs.
Firm Handshake made an impressive showing last cup, earning fourth place but actually lost in their first round of play this cup to Oh My Science.
After tonight only two cups remaining until the playoffs, which means there is plenty of time to not only sign up, but secure a spot in the top eight and fight for the best seeding possible.
