European champions Team Dignitas defeated Two Bees Determined (TBD), 3-1. Several heroes who rarely see competitive play made surprise appearances in this wonky series. Li Li and the recently buffed Malfurion appeared in game 1. In game 2 on the new map Warhead Junction, Zarya, who was significantly buffed yesterday, made her first appearance. However, in the strangest and most disorganized game of the day, Gazlowe and Nova battled in game 3 on Braxis Holdout to see who would die the most. Finally, in game 4, the Butcher made a rare yet unsuccessful appearance.

In their previous match at the second European Regional, Fnatic defeated Misfits to secure Europe’s final spot at Blizzcon. However, Misfits avenged their loss, defeating Fnatic 3-1. Misfits used double support compositions, usually pairing Tassadar with another support. In game 1 on Infernal Shrines, Fnatic had no answer for Misfits’ Sgt. Hammer and Tychus combination. However, in game 2 on Cursed Hollow, Fnatic rebounded with skilled and tactical play by scHwimpi's Azmodan. In games 3 and 4 on Tomb of the Spider Queen and Sky Temple, Misfits drafted compositions centered on darkmok’s Tracer. Their decision proved fruitful as they triumphed in a close game 3 and cruised in game 4.

Looking ahead

New hero Zarya was either banned or first picked in every game of the Digntas and TBD series. In the one game she appeared, she won. However, Zarya had no involvement in the Misfits and Fnatic series. Furthermore, with the recent changes to Malfurion, Brightwing and Malfurion dominated the support picks.

Team Dignitas and Misfits will play in the winners’ finals on Sunday, October 2. Tomorrow, in the losers’ bracket, Fnatic will face the Jabronis, while Two Bees Determined will play ePunks. Tune in to Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm channel on Saturday, October 1 at 18:00 CEST to see which two teams in the lower bracket will move on.
