Messy start to the first day of the last NA summer regional

Unforeseen technical problems and heavily delayed stream bring community tension and frustration to an all time high.

This reddit thread does a pretty good job of conveying how frustrated Heroes fans are at the current organization level of Heroes of the Storm eSports. You may have heard by now that the broadcast had some issues, but what happened?

According to Bababooey, an EU caster that was supposed to stream alongside Tetcher for the first day, the problems were unavoidable:

So the community cast was to be done from ESL studios in Europe, and I would be on it with Tetcher. Unfortunately Tetcher's computer broke and last minute they had to pull together a cast with Gilly as she was at the studio. From there everything had to be put together really quickly and in a rush there were some production issues.

Upset viewers were already baffled that such an important NA event was to be casted by a EU community stream and the explanation that this was a "last minute" technical problem doesn't sit well either. This tweet from Tetcher about the broken was posted 19 hours before the stream was scheduled to go live.

That's not last minute. Even more bewildering is that Khaldor, known EU caster that is clearly capable of running a solo stream, didn't know about any of these tech issues until the moment the stream went late:

If I had known that there's no stream for today's games I would have been happy to provide one. Heard about it for the first time right now - Khaldor

With no working stream available, the timeline went like this:

  • At 1:00 PM EST, the stream for the first day of the NA summer regional should have started. It did not.
  • At around 1:15 EST, Gillyweed goes live with an improvised stream
  • By 1:48 PM EST, the first draft of the first match started.
  • By 2:01 PM EST, the first game started.

Then, the already beloved GIllyweed came to the rescue and managed to get a workable stream going.

Despite the "save" a lot of prominent community members and pro players are fed up with the quality of Heroes of the Storm eSports events and they have taken to social media to express their dissapointment.

Some players have taken more creative ways to express their disastifaction with the long wait times and delays between matches:

With all that happening, it does look like the stream is now stable and working. To see the matches your self (and the subsequent past broadcast) check out Twitch.tv/gillyweedsc2
