Ever wondered the MMR of the Heroes of the Dorm teams? We figured that out for you

The Heroes of the Dorm team's MMR

The qualifiers are over and Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm college tournament begins this saturday. You only have a few more days to fill out your bracket and enter for a chance to win $10,000 and a sweet looking Azmodunk skin. The final deadline for bracket submissions is March 18th, 11:59 p.m. PST and we felt you could use all the help you could get in filling one out.

So here's what we did

Short of breaking into their dorms to see what kind of poetry they read we collected as much data as we could in order to determine every team’s rank. Factoring in Blizzard’s Preseason Leaderboards, team seeding, qualifier record, pro status, and even HotsLogs MMRs we’ve compiled enough data to give us a pretty good idea where each team stands.

Rank 1-64

Our MMR numbers

In this guide you’ll see the numbers behind each team’s MMR and a breakdown of how we considered the value of each category and their impact on the rating.

HotsLogs MMR: This website’s system for ranking player skill, driven by the HOTS community, provides some pretty reliable data. Though not as comprehensive as Blizzard’s database, it’s still a proven source of valuable information that helped us get a good idea of a team’s average MMR.

Preseason Leaderboards: Several players participating in this tournament are among the Top 200 players in Team and Hero League in North America according to Blizzard. By using HotsLogs as a reference we attached a value to a player’s Leaderboard rank:

  • Rank 1-50: 4750 MMR
  • Rank 51-100: 4500 MMR
  • Rank 101-150: 4250 MMR
  • Rank 151-200: 4000 MMR

Pro-level Skill: It’s difficult to quantify the value a pro player brings to an ameteur tournament. Things such as experience, shot-calling, map knowledge, and draft strategy all trickle down to the rest of the team’s performance. So in match-ups where the Team MMRs were close we gave an edge to the team with the most pro-level skill.

It’s time to go fill out your bracket and get ready for what’s shaping up to be an exciting month of intense competition. We hope this guide will help you compete as well for that lucrative cash prize and one of those Azmodunk skins being given out to the Top 500 brackets. Good luck to you and enjoy the madness.

Don't forget to post your bracket to twitter for bragging rights. Here's mine.
