Live at PAX Prime, I had a chance talk to Cognitive moments before the main event started.
Sporting a full regalia of COGnitive jerseys, the team seemed calm and ready to start the tournament. I took them aside to the most calm location I could find (this wasn't easy) to ask them collectively about the event and how they see them selves competing in it.
The first thing I wanted to know was how they plan on winning against Tempo Storm. It’s not easy being paired first around against the Top NA team, but COGnitive looked focused. The team agreed that the way to victory against Tempo Storm was to “play their own game”. They need to not get bullied early on and maintain the level of aggression that defines them as a team. As long as they don’t get levels behind, roam successfully, and keep their aggressive style of play alive, them team agrees that have a fair shot.
When asked about the other regions, the answer was similar. COGnitive has confidence in their aggressive play style and hinted that it might even be favorable against EU and SEA where the meta is more team fight oriented.
This aggressive play style brought up talks of Kerrigan, and the team agreed that it is likely they will play her during the tournament. Her latest buffs are all relevant and she has always been a comfort pick for Glaurung, the teams Melee Assassin specialist. The nerf to cleanse and the ability to pre-cleanse Kerrigans targets make her much harder to counter.
COGnitive was quick to mention, however, that for them it still feels like a NA tournament. Their first game is against Tempo Storm and if they win that, they will likely play another NA team. As such, COGnitive is only focused on the match ahead of them.
