SG Nordic League maps!

SGNL.jpg

SG.com is together with Hautamaki proud to present four high quality maps that will be used in GosuGamers Nordic League. These 4 maps constitute a good mixture of melee maps. There is a 4 player semi-islands, a 4 player cross spots, a 4 player side spots, and a 3 player map.

To create a new feeling, and to stand out from the otherwise ordinary tournaments with the same old maps, we decided that we should use never before used maps. We contacted Canada Hautamaki, that provided us with three of the maps, and a friend called United States LaZyScV. We were very happy with the result, and hope that the participants will be too. The map descriptions were made by Hautamaki himself, who is the creator of the first two and the fouth.

Overture - Hybrid island to land map

(4)Overture.jpg Overture is a hybrid island to land map designed with giving Zerg a chance to win in mind. To that end, there are a relatively large number of expansions, 3 of the most critical requiring multiple town halls to efficiently mine. If Zerg can come out of the early game alright, their mid and late game should be very strong.
Meanwhile, Terran can secure a strong economy with siege tanks in their own main, but Protoss can quickly outmacro any defensive minded players.

March - Reduces the luck factor in late game stalemates

(4)March.jpg March is a standard 4 corners map with a few quirks to both advance and balance the gameplay. Most notably is the raised ground in the middle, designed to strengthen Terran's center push to offset the strong economic potential of the other races, and the 6000 mineral patches--1 at each base--plus an additional 8000 mineral patch at the main.
It takes around half an hour to 40 minutes to mine out these patches, making your mineral lines function like a vespene geyser: after 1500 minerals your line is 'depleted' to 1 patch (2 for mains). This will reduce some of the luck factor in late game stalemates.

Dusk is a straight up macro war!

(4)Dusk.jpg Dusk was made by United States LaZyScV, a very experienced map maker with literally dozens if not hundreds of maps under his belt, and a gosu terran in his own right. This map compliments the others well because it features side starting positions and is a straight up macro war. While clever strategies could be a factor on the other maps, solid gameplay and mechanics will probably win the race here.

Sonata, adding an even greater level of strategic depth

(3)Sonata2.jpgThe most unusual map of the 4 is Sonata, this map started with the idea that it would be interesting if there wasn't exactly a clear choice for the first natural. Because of Zerg, the idea changed slightly to taking the second choice of expanding by no means certain. There are 3 equally valid choices for the second natural, which hopefully will make every game even more unique and add an even greater level of strategic depth.
