One by one all available ladders are adopting serious anti-hacking measures. One by one the law of fair play is adopted. One by one the worship of the fog spreads. Convert or die.
Excuse my ignorance, but I have just realized that WGTour has made one of their biggest changes in policy in years. Season 10 started this past Sunday. They announced it in a small post. The most significant change in its history was barely highlighted by putting 2 words in bold.
Let me quote their post word for word.
Season 9 has ended.
Season 10 will begin on Sunday, 23:59 CET.
The important changes for this season will be:
- starting ranks reduced to C4-C6 (it was a controversial issue, so we’re choosing a ’middle’ approach)
- mandatory BWScanner
- map of the week
- shorter complaint / game accept times
Please make sure to download and test the BWScanner client before Sunday, in order to make sure you have no problems with it.
UPDATE: Do not worry about the bot telling you different ranks, this will NOT affect the points you get for the game. MoTW will be up later today, please be patient.

No doubt in my mind Wgtour needs some serious public relations and strategy planning for their site. They are the biggest Broodwar community outside of Korea. They have the largest ladder in the west. They have the largest crew of editors of any Starcraft news site. They have had, and probably still do, the potential to be the best Starcraft site in all aspects of the game: community, ladder and news. And yet despite their history and their potential they sit idly as other rather small sites, now not so small, grow and eat their audience and community chunk by chunk. When they finally announce perhaps their most important change in policy in their history, it is almost hidden in a small announcement with little or no importance attributed to it.
Regardless everything I have mentioned it feels me with great joy to see that this site has finally accepted and adopted the universal principle of all competitive events ~ the rule of fairness, of fair play. Without it no results can be legitimate, no victory bears its true significance and no loss its true reality.
Wgtour has finally become a true ladder. This all but proves that real competition is always healthy and will always benefit us all. The sting of the impending threat of other ladders can only but help each individual ladder as they all strive to improve and offer a better battle arena. In the case of wgtour specifically I feel they have waited far too long for this change but I applaud their change in policy, better late than never; and since they have not made a big deal about it I have taken the liberty to do so myself.
Map hackers, your days are numbered. The gospel of the fog is spreading, convert or die. Embrace the fog and yee shall feel its power, convert and yee shall feel the thrill of battle again.
