WCG: Germany *

[s]event_wcg[/s]One of the strongest WCG qualifiers without a doubt is the German WCG final, ToT)Mondragon(, the favorite won it with an uncanny ease. FiSheYe[pG] came second proving experience does count and that he is here to stay. Rematch in San Francisco?

The offline finals of WCG Germany were held today.
There were some favorites coming in, like Germany ToT)Mondragon( and Germany FiSheYe[pG]. As with all other major tournaments, this one was not without its upsets. The first round of the winners' bracket was as follows:

FiSheYe[pG] > ToT)Psier( 2-0
Draconis_cebit< GoT)Grummel 0-2
GermanStaR > GeNtLeMaN[pG]W.O.
iv.GoOdy > Socke[pG] 2-1
heXer[pG] < ToT)SiLeNcE( 0-2
Selector < Dashwriter 0-2
InFiNitY[pG] > (BHC)Fenris 2-0
ToT)Mondragon( > iV.StOrMy 2-0

Already, some upsets had occured. heXer[pG], who finished 2nd in the recent GigaLiga tournament (losing to Mondraon in the finals), was ousted in the first round by ToT)SiLeNcE(. Socke[pG], making it to the WCG World Finals in a previous year, was also taken down in the initial round. Luckily, there was a losers' bracket, as well.

The next round went like this:

Winners' Bracket

FiSheYe[pG] > GoT)Grummel 2-0
GermanStaR < iv.GoOdy 0-2
ToT)SiLeNcE( < Dashwriter 0-2
InFiNitY[pG] < ToT)Mondragon( 1-2

Losers' Bracket

ToT)Psier > draconis_cebit 2-0
Socke[pG] > Free Win W.O.
heXer[pG] < Selector 1-2
(BHC)Fenris < iv.StOrMy 0-2

So, draconis, hexer, and fenris were eliminated altogether from the tournament. Mondragon and Fisheye were still looking strong heading into the third round of action:

Winners' Bracket

FiSheYe[pG] > iv.GoOdy 2-0
Dashwriter < ToT)Mondragon( 1-2

Losers' Bracket

ToT)Psier( < InFiNitY[pG] 0-2
Socke[pG] > ToT)SiLeNcE 2-0
Selector < GermanStaR 0-2
iv.Stormy < GoT)Grummel 0-2

The winners' bracket final would be between...yep, you guessed it! FiSheYe[pG] and ToT)Mondragon(. This series was actually shown live on an internet stream. In the end:

FiSheYe[pG] < ToT)Mondragon( 0-2

ToT)Mondragon was the winner of the winners' bracket, and thus secured himself a spot in San Francisco. There were still 2 more spots up for grabs, however, and the losers' bracket concluded like this:

Round 4

InFiNitY[pG] > Socke[pG] 2-1
GermanStaR > GoT)Grummel 2-1

Round 5

InFiNitY[pG] > iv.GoOdy 2-0
GermanStaR > Dashwriter 2-1

Round 6

InFiNitY[pG] < GermanStaR 1-2

Losers' Bracket Final

FiSheYe[pG] > GermanStaR 2-0

The 3 spots had already been decided after the Losers' Bracket Semifinal, but there was still a grand final to be played. It would be a rematch of the winners' bracket final, with ToT)Mondragon once again squaring off against FiSheYe[pG]. Mondragon started out with a 1-0 lead because he came from the winners' bracket. Who would take home the title of "1st Place WCG Germany 2004"?

ToT)Mondragon( > FiSheYe[pG] 3-0

So, ToT)Mondragon( is the winner of WCG Germany 2004! It was an overall dominating performence by mondi, who lost just 2 games throughout the whole tournament. The top 3 were:
