WCG Brazilian Scandal

[s]event_wcg[/s]The Brazilian Starcraft community is in turmoil. Complaints of Counterstrike bias, poor organization and a scandal about a finalist trying to bribe an opponent and then obtain a spot to WCG due to opportunism has the whole community in mass hysteria clamoring for murder.

There is never a competition without a scandal of sorts. Here at SG.com we receive them all sooner or later, many due to their lack of significance in our community we choose not to mention and some just need to published. There is an ongoing turmoil in the Brazilian community. You know when you get ten of the top players of an event screaming in rage something has to have gone wrong.

They are complaining that WCG Brazil was poorly organized and catered mainly to the Counterstrike community. The final game between Brazil Master and
Brazil Hellghost was played at 3 AM, all the replays from every WCG game (Broodwar, FIFA etc..) were not saved with the exception of the Counterstrike Demos, these were saved. Apparently a virus infected the computers and they formatted the computers daily, they took the time of saving the CS demos but not all the other games so now they are all lost for eternity.

The Brazilian Starcraft community to say the least is very unhappy with the organization in charge, » VSEN, who has always catered mainly to the Counterstrike community. Having said this, let us remember that they did organize the event, which is always better than no organization. It is easy to complain when you are not doing the work. The other side of the coin is that if you are an organizer for WCG, you must cater to all communities equally, if one can not do that, that organization should simply not be allowed to sponsor more WCG events.

However, the real scandal is not the above mentioned organization ailments. That sort of stuff happens everywhere. No the real scandal is currently focused on the most controversial Brazilian gamer: Brazil Vikter. Apparently this infamous gamer, known by most in the Brazilian community as the “Chair Rusher” (because once after losing a LAN game he rushed his opponent physically with a chair and proceeded to clobber him with it), has been at it again.

It seems that he is being accused by many in the community offering to pay
Brazil Nothx-Odin in the finals to lose on purpose so that he could assure himself a spot in the final three. Apparently Odin, a personal friend, neither had the resources nor passport to be able to travel so he was a natural target for such offer. Even though he refused the offer and told everyone about it, according to everyone at the event he still lost on purpose out of compassion for his friend Vikter. No one has heard from him since then. It all stayed within the family and despite complaints to the judges nothing much was done.

Nothx-fandodeath: relax
Vikter: But you're playing seriously
Nothx-fandodeath: i won't kill you
Nothx-fandodeath: man
Nothx-fandodeath: fuck off
The scandal does not end here. Apparently the second place winner, Brazil Master, is having visa troubles so Brazil Vikter has already asked the VSEN organization for his spot and this is when all hell broke lose. The Brazilian community will tolerate many things but if Vikter ends up travelling to WCG, I fear for his life. Many Brazilian forums are clamoring murder. My task here is not to judge them, but to report the events. If it were up to me I would disqualify both Vikter and Odin. Fortunately for them I am just an editor. So far Vikter has denied any truths in the accusations and Odin is nowhere to be found.

I have posted a translation of a post in a major Brazilian forum about the whole ordeal if and you want more sordid details you will not be disappointed, the scandal has even more details.

(including Master's, Stubbles' and Hellghost's opinion on the matter)

The Brazilian Starcraft community is a strong and healthy community. They finally got fed up with one of their members and are just cleaning house now, so do not be mislead by the actions of one individual. We wish Brazil Hellghost and Brazil Master the best of luck at WCG San Francisco. We will be looking forward to interviewing both of them at SF. Good luck with your visa, Master!
